Eeeenteresting...I wonder how far along BMW would be if they poured resources into this while they were ahead of the game with the i3 years ago. What could have been...

430i with cca 258HP is too weak for X-drive IMHO

Very interested in the G07 X7 LCI. Listed in the first post here as start of production in 8/22, for MY2023. But we're already seeing multiple LCI spyshots, so that seems quite off in the future. Could the LCI be moving up to MY2022?

Sorry, if I missed it but is there an all electric G20 on the way?

It may not be to your taste - fair enough.

But the B48 powered vehicles - the X3 30i, X4 30i, 330i, 430i and 530i - sell in huge volume. Certainly far more than their B58 powered M Performance siblings (though the 540i is probably similar volume to the 530i). Of course, many of these are sold to people living below the snow belt (who don't need AWD and may be attracted by the pricing of a relatively stripped down vehicle), but there are likely to be almost as many sold to people living further north, the majority of whom choose AWD in today's market.

Another way to look at it - the M*40i models are definitely not driving the market in AWD BMW sales. It's the lesser sibling.

Now the Gran Coupe may be more of a southern state model for whatever reason (anecdotally, I don't see many up here compared to the others I listed), and that could be why. But it is definitely not because most folks in the north think BMW's four cylinder is underpowered. If they did then BMW's sales would surely tank and they'd rectify the problem with a B48B20T1 (which doesn't exist - only the "A" variant does) or something similar.

I don't think that 430i is underpowered. It is pretty good engine. Very potent. But. X-drive with non M cars kills BMW driving feeling to me.
X drive train weights cca 90kg on the front axle. Plus there are additional transmission loses. All in all different car. Although it is good for places with lot of snow during winter.

If that 420d in the profile is correct, I would suggest we have a case of people in glass houses v. stones.

With i4 launching in late 2021, BMW has to deliver a car which will be not only competitive but hopefully a new leader in its market segment. Sales statistics will tell the full story.

Yes. 420d is current. Underpowered but drives as BMW. Light nose, 50:50 weight per axle and rear wheel drive.

Since it's seem like EV are gaining quickly, do you think that it might be easier to import a wider range of models based on EV platform to the North American market compared to their ICE variant?

It does seem so. Right now every electric variant BMW is planning to make has a US version.

Hi!
For some time now it is not possible to order the F87/M2, at least in Europe, and it its EOP date was predicted to be in the end of the 1st semester 2021... Could this mean that the new M2 will arrive sooner than expected?
Regards

Do we know if the removal of soft close doors on the X5 and “normal” 5 series is permanent? Or is it just for the 2021 model year due to supply chain issues?

However, European emissions regulations do not apply to the whole world.

Yeah I'd like to get an answer on this. Surprised how many customers have asked about this.

My source still shows 11/20 as the SOP. Anything different from that means a marketing decision. Remember that I always had this caveat that marketing is invisible to me? This appears to be one of those situations.
