I'm guessing the G87 will be slower than the M2CS - primarily because of weight and differences in tires. I've read that good tires can cut 1 second off a one minute lap. With the M2CS at 7:42, I think it's reasonable for the G87 to be in the 7:50 range

I want to see this in person. I loved the 1M and everyone who's seen it in the flesh says lots of 1M vibes...

G87 will definitely be faster than the RS3. So it will be faster than the F87.

Agreed - I was just wondering where the F87CS was, for comparison.

I don't hate it, but the size and weight increases make you think twice about getting a G87 over a G80. The F87 was still short enough to look really compact. This car is getting longer and the weight is nearly the exact same as G80. It needs to have improved driving dynamics or it's not a good value proposition.

Read up:

https://www.bmwblog.com/2020/09/22/2...is-suspension/
Double jointed with alumninum wishbone is a macpherson setup. Go look at the technical training diagram. Trailing link, wishbone, and tie rod at the bottom with double ball joints and strut/hub to tower attached at top.

BMW marketing just doesn't like the term "macpherson" because people associate that with cheap. It is 100% macpherson.

https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/at...8;d=1622934458

Page 67

Actual double wishbone:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doub...one_suspension

Strut isn't integrated into the hub and hub is attached to top wishbone

You're right, BMW only reserves double wishbone suspension for the 5 Series and above (i.e: cost cutting) plus some of their racing/track cars like the M4 DTM.

All other BMWs uses a MacPherson front strut and multilink rear, including the G80/82 and obviously the G87.

Notice the difference - M4, M4 DTM, and M8:

Its gonna be probably around 7:45 imo .

7:42 was not the official M2 CS time by BMW factory driver. The F87 platform is capable to making 7:00 the btg Nur with few mods , but BMW hold it back for several reasons .

That's the thing, why buy a compact (not really) 2 door sports car what should have been the M2, when you can get a G82 M4 Comp which weighs 100lbs more (with xDrive)

The whole point of the M2 series was supposed to be lightweight fun-to-drive 2 door sports car.

That's where your wrong, the whole point was to sell a cheaper M car (BMW never claimed it should or would be more lightweight)

And it is, relatively speaking.

Why wouldn't I buy a G82 M4 comp with xdrive instead?

Because I'm not as baller as many here and am not spending 20+ grand more on a car.

I wouldn't go the M4 route on looks and size alone (buck teeth + boat length = not my jam).

While the looks of the G87 are definitely polarizing, and I am not a fan of the rear (based upon pictures), I can at least acknowledge what they were trying to do.

I really think the front end would look better with the quad headlights - if they had gone that direction, I might have been able to overlook the busyness of the rear.

Agree. Same thought process as well. I guess the M2 is another GT car? 3,800lbs then add a driver you’re close to 2 tons. Driving a 3,400lb on track is painful already due to weight transfer during braking and turning. Imagine doing it with a 4,000 lb car with you in it. It be interesting if bmw comes out with a rear wheel drive m240i manual….probably not?

The new pretty photos and videos can't hide the messy design, especially the bulky and oddly angular rear. Looks better than the leaked photos, of course, but it's a step backward design-wise, and that dash is awful.

Still, it's an M2, so it's cool by default. I'd love to see photos of it without the optional carbon roof. I can't stand that two-tone look. I bet a body-matching roof would look a lot better.
