Now that the G42 info is officially all out on the table, what do we think this means for the G87 as far as:
1. Colors - exterior/interior 2. Design - how will they top the already wide fenders and power dome hood? 3. Packages/options 4. Price - just slightly over the F87? 5. Competition variant? |

Updated July 14, 2021 with latest spy pics of the G87 prototype.
The spied interior shows upgraded wraparound display screens (the G42 2-series gets the standard displays)

I'm really curious how they do options for this car. Hoping they keep it simple like the f87. Check yes or no to executive package and that's it

Why are they shoving this bizarre-looking display down our throats???? Just when BMW got good interiors, they have to throw it all out? I never liked the stand alone GPS screen that looked like someone super glued an iPad to the dash. Now this is even worse.

Agreed - they are trying to do what Mercedes did - but Mercedes is now moving away from it because it looks horrible.

2 horizontal screens: Mercedes Benz in 2014!!
2014! Obviously, Mercedes has now abandoned that awful lazy design. |

Why are they spending dev cycles and $ on a wrap around screen in an M car when they need to just get the steering right? Just get the fundamentals right and don't make the car heavier. The steering weight in my LCI M2 is atrocious. Zero relationship between tire load and weight/resistance in sport modes. It's like an arcade game from the late 1990s.
All this reliance on screens and tech to deliver a "value proposition" only means the car has less of a value proposition in 2-3 years and they need to do more work to keep up with this for a mid-cycle refresh. And these systems are never better or easier to use than an iPhone, so what's the point? I just use my phone for everything because it's more responsive and doesn't have the weird quirks that even using apple car play introduces. Just make the car be good and leave the other stuff to phones to handle. BMW really have lost touch with what their core identity is, what a shame. |

I hope they make the exec package more meaningful. The wireless charging is a pretty minimal thing and the active headlights are next to useless in my experience, they just add weight and complexity.

How bad are the winters there? I've driven all manner of 911 and Miatas year round here in DC, even when the weather is sub freezing. They're all great unless there is snow on the ground and you don't have snow tires on. M2 was no different this year. Honestly it may have been more fun in winter when the PS4S have a little less grip.

Curious about those fenders and their tacked-on look. Hoping they go with a more elegant solution on the final product. Also seems like we're sticking with the cow udder muffler?

Because it's not specifically for the M2. The i4 got a similar screen setup, and the regular 2er will be updated to this screen setup in a year or 2 as well.

BMW will still have 2 separate screens, just larger, slightly curved and connected by a trim piece to make them look seamless. The idrive 7/8 system naturally has the ability to consume more real estate and BMW has already digitized the displays throughout the line. Whether aesthetically it is preferred or not vs the more "cockpit" look there are few options to increase the size of the displays and keep the current UI concepts. |

I think the current generation is the last of analog cars BMW has made.

Love that cognac will be available for this car.
Also I don't think the linked screens are a bad look. I think BMW will make the finished product look quite good. |
