Does anyone knows as to why we do not get the Laser Lights on the US 5 Series?

And why did they took away the automatic soft close doors on the 2021 5 Series model year?

8-cylinder engines

I'm left wondering if the current 8-cylinder engines on the existing models are the end of the line. No 8-cyclinder ICE or hybrids in the future.

As each model goes out of production, the next model generation will not have an 8-cylinder engine in the line up.

If this is true, the last 8-cylinder BMWs will be the X6 M50i and X6 M.

I certainly hope you are right - things are changing so quickly that I'm left wondering if the 8-cylinder engine development will be cut off earlier than was planned as recently as Sep 2019.

Edit: Your note re MB S 580 likely confirms the 8 cylinder getting carried forward to at least the next generation of the current models that carry the 8 cylinder engine.

Rest assured, V8 engines are going nowhere soon. Hybridized V8s will be mainstays this decade in performance vehicles from Germany and elsewhere.

Ironically, that's not necessarily the case. The reason is, 500hp isn't hard to reach with an I6 hybrid setup. Ironically, that's not necessarily the case. The reason is, 500hp isn't hard to reach with an I6 hybrid setup. Thanks for your thoughts - really helpful.

Considering the added weight, (given where we are right now in terms of hp/tq output) I think hybridization of the V8 seems quite pointless other than for bragging rights.

Given what is likely the low fraction of V8s sold for the current models, I wonder how may sales they are going to get of the hybridized V8s.

It would be helpful to see the distribution of sales by # of cylinders for the 5, 7, 8, X5, X6, X7 (including Ms) for the past year.

There's a bit of that, sure. However, I don't think Mercedes would have spent all that money with nothing to show for it. Expect the GT73e to trounce the GT63 model. But yes, it'll be interesting to see how much weight it gains.

Those numbers aren't public. However, we do have global BMW sales numbers and global BMW M sales numbers:

BMW = 2,028,659
BMW M = 144,218

So BMWs performance and high performance sales make up a little over 7% of their total. Since all BMW V8 models are now M models except the 750i, this number includes nearly all of the V8s. If we assume M models make up roughly the same percentage across each vehicle in the lineup, we can set an upper bound on the V8 at roughly 7% of BMW's engine mix in the 5/6/7/8 families. Yes, that assumption is a bit of a reach, and this is a very coarse grained analysis, so take it for what it's worth. But we know it's not completely in left field. My gut says that the actual V8 number is lower - perhaps around 5% - but that's just a SWAG.

No more i3 revisions. What you see is what you get, until the end of time (which is I believe how long BMW will keep making the i3).

The G20 LCI is slated for production in 07/22, does that mean it'll arrive as a 2023 model in late 2022?

I assume the G80 LCI will come together with it the G20 LCI, carrying any new minor stylistic changes?

I know it's just a render but this picture is awful!!!

i3 design has always been controversial but I actually really like it. I was hoping to get a new battery upgrade but I guess a bit of facelift wouldn't be that bad. I just hope that it's not like the exotic taxi color we got this year is it planned for MY2022?

My info states the engineering planning was for March SOP as late as December. Market conditions I guess?
