It's fine, it's the cards we've been dealt as BMW fans. Anyone saying it has 1M vibes is either telling themselves stories or they need new glasses.

Also the G82 CSL is giving off 3.0 CSL vibes :

Didn't the reviews of the G82 hit couple weeks from actual delivery of the cars to dealers? If so, pretty much quiet period until April?

Anyone know why in some documents and reviews 0-60 times for Manual is 4.3 or 4.1, 4.1 or 3.9 for Auto? Which numbers are correct?

If you can't see the side profile resemblance then YOU need glasses.

IndyMike please inform him. Hell even Artemis has posted several comparison photos.

Yes, but also a much better chassis and wider tires, I guess it will at least match (if not beat) the CS times, just as the M4C G82 did with the F82 CS.

I like how the M3/4 look specific and distinct from the 3/4 series. Now the M2 does the same….

I've been thinking about this car a lot because I had a deposit down on one. But I won't go through with it. Whether you like this car comes down to your philosophy and brand disposition. Classic BMW guys will not like this car because BMW made conscious decisions to step away from elegant design and more towards a trendy/product-oriented design. Whether that is good or bad completely comes down to your taste. Like if you ignore the BMW badge, the G87 is an amazing looking car. It's going to be a head turner. Adding the M badge, some of us question the design decisions.

Then there's interior. I also find it fascinating how many are all of a sudden taking a dump on the F87's interior. Yes it's simple, that's the point. Dated? Wouldn't say that. But again, it comes down to--are you a traditional BMW guy? Then you'll probably hate the total lack of design integration of the wide iPad stuck to the dash. If you don't care about that, then it's amazing because it offers a lot more screen real estate.. for.. whatever you need that for.

The performance stuff is irrelevant IMO since these cars will be quite close. Personally, I am done paying more to reward BMW for making these cars so heavy. The cost cutting is also pretty evident here despite it "looking" nicer. Again, that probably doesn't bother you. Insert <it doesn't feel heavy> comments.

The reason we see forum polarization is because of the distinct design step change. There isn't even anything as controversial as the G8x grille. It's just.. a huge change for BMW. I can both praise BMW for "going for it" but lament the move away from classic BMW design. Luckily I can vote with my wallet. The G87 is going to give some people sticker shock as well with post-covid price increases. But if you find yourself saying "WOW it's so much faster, the interior is SO much nicer", then congrats, this car is for you. You don't care about weight or tradition. I salute you. You may also say "It's heavy, polarizing, questionable exterior design, ipad interior" and not like that enough to justify the price and weight increase. That's fine too.

Of course it seems that way. If it didn't, BMW marketing wouldn't be doing its job.

Weight is increasing - yes - but the weight increase from E to F and then G is actually the smallest increases in M3 history, no? The E30 was 2,700 lbs, E36 added 500 lbs! , E46 was somewhat neutral before E90 added another 400 lbs. Since the E90, the M3 has only gained 200-300 lbs. Yes, we'd love to avoid that but during that timeframe, the expectation in a new car along with safety standards has added much of that weight. But based on the numbers, "traditional" BMW guys accepted much more weight gain in those older versions.

The one area I do agree is in the styling. I always felt that M versions of cars were styled in such a way that they felt special to those that knew what an M was but still stayed mature in their design (ie a more controlled enhancement). The F80 transformation of the F30 really showed what BMW could do to make a car look so much better but still feel like an adult could drive it. I feel like with the G87, they tried to cater a little more to a younger crowd rather than the same M3/M4 buyer that wanted something a little smaller/less GT. But when I look back at E30 photos, I can see perhaps where they were trying to go here. The back is still a little out there for me but the rest is starting to look good to my old eyes - I mean "traditional" eyes.

If you look at the interview with Jose Casas go to about the 8:30 mark and he distinctly states that the 1 M was a heavy influence on the ultimate design.

I really don't see it, other than they are both entry-level M cars and have four wheels.

The mention of the 1M makes me sad because it reminds me that BMW are very well capable of creating a classy+sporty appearing vehicle but decided to take a hard left and instead whip up their own version of a BMW Civic Type R.

I had the 1M and loved the way it looked, but I never found it classy, even at the time
It was f***ing bulky, that's why we liked it, but classy... not really.

Finally, now I know whay I dont like it. It looks like an office desk! With wide screen monitors. They should add some dumb graphic that looks like bitcoin charts or smth to make it complete. Yikes, you nailed it dude.

Car design as product - hate that. Car should be emotional. This crap is prepping you for a subscription service. And soon, personal ownership will go away fully. It will just be subscribe, and get the goodies - or expire and drive a dumb car that has no power, no options on, unless you pay, and you will have no choice over it. Just whatever car companies lobbied.
