Yeah lumping in $10,000 (in my case) of extended warranty in a 5 year loan (which I also didn't really have a chance to discuss) when I can purchase it any time before the warranty actually ends just doesn't seem like a good idea at all. I'm pretty embarrassed to say that the total sale price after interest was $103,500 for a $77,000 car. That's just absolutely insane.

How come?
I was originally going to wait and buy the extended warranty later on, but when I learned that the warranty that comes with the car is "limited" I decided to spring for the platinum warranty from the get go. The limited warranty that comes with the car only covers powertrain, whereas the platinum covers just about everything, so I was enticed by that additional protection now just in case something like, say, the infotainment system, craps out. To each their own, but the full coverage seems worth it IMO, unless you get fleeced for $7k like JG13. These are M cars, after all, so they (definitely mine) are likely to get beat on and break.

Manufacturer warranty is very limited and won't cover steering, brakes, heat/air, infotainment, etc. It also only has limited coverage on engine, transmission, cooling, etc. Ultimate care + is if you want to cover all regular maintenance + consumables. The appeal there for me is to cover brakes, since the 900 I paid for the lowest tier includes consumables for those first 3 years. I may opt to extend it beyond 3 years, with the appeal being the inclusion of clutch replacement, which is a year 5 maintenance item if I remember correctly.

I agree that blowing up my engine due to negligence wouldn't be covered, but, in my 135i for example, several years ago the dealer did $7k worth of work replacing fuel pumps, lines, injectors, etc. to fix a misfire issue. THAT is what I'm trying to avoid.

After looking at paperwork I can confirm that it’s the platinum. I’ll probably keep it as it only adds about $40 extra to my monthly. Not terrible.

Who else's car that came with Aquarius Leader is still sitting at the port? Mine still has an open work order on it without ETA. Losing patience a bit. Who would've thought some stick-on carbon parts take longer to install than HAS lol.

That said, I’m not averse to buying the Platinum warranty when the time comes before 20K miles. Bills can add up very quickly if things go wrong (which I’ve seen firsthand). |

Getting annoyed with the lady I'm working with in Finance at my dealer. Told them on Tuesday I wanted to cancel the warranties and have been following up every day. Finally she called me today and tried to talk me out of it but I told her my mind was made up. She said she would email me the forms to cancel but of course I haven't seen them yet.
I decided to just go with Geico's Mechanical Breakdown Insurance. Comes out to 160 a year, or $1,120 for 7 years/100000. It sucks that I'll have to pay for it when it can't be used during the BMW warranty period but the overall cost is low enough that I'm not going to worry about it. |
