I sold (traded it in actually) my 1965 Mustang (64 1/2, 4spd, 4bbl, 225 horse 289) two years after I bought it for $99 less than I paid for it. Bought it for $799 off a fly-by-night lot (it's now an el polo loco) and traded it in for $700. I regret not keeping it until I remember the constant tune-ups, lack of handling (it was a Falcon underneath, after all), (HOT & sticky) vinyl seats and 2X65 air conditioning!

After his father died he started regretting them selling it due to the rebuild memories and he started tracking it down. He found it 2 states away in a shed that the guy who bought it had died. He took a chance and drove over and the wife let him see it and he talked her into selling it back to him. He will never sell it again. LOL Took him a while to track it down, but he got it done.

How long of a radar lock do you need to establish actual speed?
Cruising thru Lassen county from Tahoe to Portland. Two lane, beautiful fresh pavement, another vehicle maybe every 5 minutes. Waze tells me police ahead so I stomp on brakes and come down to 65 in 55. Almost didn’t see CHP truck Slowed to 55, he stayed in place. Looked again and he was driving behind me. Looked again and pulled over He told me he had a brief lock at 87, did I have a radar detector? He was very generous since I slowed down and he just wrote my name and license in his little book

Is there a legal difference between a "peace officer" and a "police officer" ?????

A “police officer” is a title specifically granted to a peace officer employed by a city municipality or state agency. The title is often used as a sweeping generalization to define all cops, but we all have similar, but different police powers and responsibilities as defined by a state’s penal code or equivalent. |

At the beach over the weekend a local police officer patrolling the beach stopped and told us we had to surrender our jar of pickles because glass containers weren't allowed on the beach.
We didn't really care and just handed them over but then he asked if we had any other containers to move them to. We got some baggies and put most of them inside but there was three left. This dude went down the beach until he found someone with another non-glass container so we could keep the last three pickles. Honor guard this guy was. Officer Martinez.

They fall under a different penal code section, but they are, indeed, police officers. Jurisdiction is mainly the campus and surrounding area (…square mileage). |

It turned out the grey market 1985 M635CSi I'd bought from an independent in Berkeley who was converting bought-in-Germany BMWs and Porsches was of interest to CARB. My eventual conclusion was that CARB was taking its frustrations out on his CA customers by making us wait a full year before we could finalize the registration of our cars. My temporary paper California plate was dark red with black data. It was placed in the southwest corner of the rear windshield. I never got stopped in California while driving at night, but I did in every other state in which I drove it while waiting for CARB to release its hold on the registration. At night, the car looked like the driver was just driving around with no plates.

Hmmmm, something is awry.
First every Porsche dealership in the nation gets hacked about a month ago (…and data gets stolen) and now hospitals, banks, airline companies, etc. are suffering from cyber attacks. Hospitals around the nation are using paper logs, airlines are 5-6 hours delayed, etc. A large segment of Alaska’s 9-1-1 emergency system is completely down. Two of my colleagues were turned away from getting money out of the bank and the ATM’s were inoperable. I found it odd when Porsche got hit, and now this. It’s a test……and an election year. Strap in for the ride. |

Nothing unexpected. The IT profession is filled with people who don't truly know the trade, and the bad guys are walking all over them.....

One of today’s crashes. Some people are just horrible drivers. The driver of the white Honda Accord was the at-fault party.

Yeah, so now it hit us…..
“We have been informed of a significant ransomware attack on the Los Angeles Superior Court's internal systems. To mitigate further damage, the Court’s network system will remain disabled, and all Los Angeles Superior Courts will be temporarily closed until further notice. This closure may impact operations within your unit, and it is imperative that everyone remains aware of any temporary adjustments. Deputies assigned to the Court Services Bureau are to report to their regular assignments at standard start times and assist the public with any inquiries or concerns. We will collaborate closely with our County partners and the Los Angeles Superior Court to provide department members with updated information as it becomes available. At this time, no inmates will be transported to court tomorrow (Monday, July 22, 2024), and all judicial activities are suspended until the issue is resolved. All personnel must exercise heightened vigilance regarding cybersecurity protocols within our systems to prevent similar attacks.” |

Ransomware, or CrowdStrike? I saw that some other courts in the IE had staff work long OT hours over the weekend to get all the computers back functional after the CrowdStrike error took them down.

The announcement from Sedan said ransomware. Usually this isn't communicated to the public.
Most ransomware gangs are doing double-extortion these days, which means that they have pilfered all kinds of sensitive data and use the threat of publishing that to the dark web as an additional incentive to pay the ransom. As I've posted several times recently, I'm glad that I was involuntarily retired from the IT field a few weeks ago and don't have to deal with this crap any more.....
