Not sure how many of the 170 configurable allocations are in 150 production, but even if it's all of them, that seems like a small number for an important launch. These cars will arrive minimum 1 month after launch, and at least half of dealerships will see their first non-HEA units hit their lots in June or later.
It's up to you to determine whether sending ~20% of the usual customer-configurable launch supply somewhat on time means there was no delay. |

Im not the only order that has been moved to an earlier production time-frame. Bad launch? See Lotus Emira lol. |

FYI for those of you that are new to the M world, M production is generally much lower than non-M production. BMW is not planning to pump these things out.
Furthermore, low supply and high demand has become a situation that many automotive manufacturers and their dealers have thoroughly enjoyed. Go spend a good half an hour reading through subscription-based Automotive News if one desires any proof. Edit, Also keep in mind that SLP produces the G20 and G42 models as well and up until very recently they operate on one production shift. Last edited by T_U_D; 03-20-2023 at 05:01 PM.. |

Speaking of small numbers is completely subjective, but M cars are always produced in smaller numbers, and the M2 will be among the smallest number of M cars produced. I imagine it will be similar to F87 production numbers. Those were pretty small. What is the "usual customer-configurable launch supply" and why is that an indication of a delay? BMW will have over 350 HEAs delivered to their US dealerships before the launch date. That seems pretty good to me, and can't be considered a delay by any metric. Did people really think their custom ordered M2 would be at the dealer by launch? That would be unusual. |

One might be able to dig into whatever database is used for VIN decoding and figure out a precise number. 40 non-HEA M2s in 150 prod status means only 1/10th of US dealers have any hope of replicating my G82 launch timeline for their G87 launch customers. In my anecdotal case, I’m #1 at my store for the G87 and we haven’t yet gotten our prod number yet, so I’m at least 2 months out from April 8th at the minimum assuming one comes in within the next monthly drop (1-2 weeks from now). It’s fine; I’m sticking with mine despite making other plans. As a repeat launch M buyer, this looks like a delay to me, though I understand that it won’t to those fortunate 40. |

Has anyone seen any movement from the US ports? Wondering if they are going to hold them all there until the first week of April so they don't hit the dealerships much before the 8th.
I have a HEA unit that I am hoping the dealership can have PPF done on before the 8th so its ready to go. |

Mine will have Indiana Jones-type cobwebs by the time it arrives to the dealer!
Do the cars ship with gas in them or completely empty of oils and fuel? How long will it have been since the engine ran or battery charged? I mean it's almost like they're costing themselves money waiting to deliver it to the dealer where at least they can charge it up and make sure it's good... |

They have all the necessary fluids as they are driven onto a train to be transported to the port, and then driven on and off the ship. How else do you think they get moved around? Minimum fuel is applied at the end of assembly. A full tank is added during the PDI process at your dealership. |
