Yep. Both my 7yr old and myself took one look at it and smiled. Daytona was a great event this year with the new hyper cars.

There's little things like that which an "aggressive" zf8 couldn't replicate.
I personally don't care about neutral rollback or any of those kinds of DCT quirks. I don't miss the feeling of a slipping clutch when going up steep inclines at low speeds, as I had to experience daily leaving an underground parking garage in my old DCT M2C and F80 CS. Only concerned with how things perform when driven at 7/10 and above.

It's been many years since I had a '12 135i DCT, and while it shifted well, I don't recall the experience being significantly better or more aggressive than even an M4C in S3, much less a CSL in S3.

I'm still in break-in on mine, so still a few weeks away from truly putting it through its paces. I've tried upshifts on hard acceleration, and your experience mirrors mine there. Aggressive downshifts, only a couple of times, no opinion yet.

But the CS also came with a sandwich construction CF roof as standard so that was a decent saving off the bat that wasn’t a C option.

For those still worried about the G8x 6MT experience or the G87 in general, here's a review thread for the G82 6MT at the track.

It seem a lot of people are being overly influenced by certain reviewers while ignoring actual user experiences.

While the styling, weight, and digital cluster (yes, I prefer analog or at least my M2C's facsimile of fully analog gauges) will be fodder for any number of videos and posts, I am so thankful that M has produced this car.
So many of the reviews from folks that have physical access to the car that I've seen so far have all had this flavor: "wow, really nice, glad BMW have made this car (#savethemanuals) buuuuut … F87".

It's seeming like the G87 is a victim of its predecessor's success. We'd be falling down in the streets worshipping BMW right now if they'd just introduced this turbo'd inline-6 with a 6MT without it coming on the heels of the F87. Instead, the reaction seems to be "meh, I guess it's a pretty nice car."

I’m a very satisfied F87 M2 LCI owner. I’m also over the moon that the G87 exists. We could so easily be in a world where BMW altogether decided to stop making a powerful little sports coupe with manual transmission option. So, much as I Iove my F87, I think I see a lot to like with the G87 and am excited about it.

How can the Mustang GT which I thought was known to be heavy, is actually be lighter than this? and spec'd more powerful?

I'm not sure why people who loves this new design feel soooo offended when others say that the older model is better in their opinion? It's not like they designed it. No need to be an arse just bec a person doesn't love it as much as you do. Yes I know I'm in the G87 forum but I don't believe you need to love G87 to be able to post here. That was not in the rules and guides.

I guess I'm like Thomas of TH.... a bitter, jaded, Long-Beach-blue loving bast....

Yes proud to be a F87 owner....and will likely upgrade to a CS (Straight Pipe's sentiments) if ever I got tired of b*tch-slapping this car. Misbehaving is what, IMO, this car is about. If that is lost, then it lost its soul.

The Mach 1 is the closest comparison, but it is heavier at 1755kg for the manual than the G87 M2 manual at 1725kg (without the lighter carbon fibre bits which seems to take it to 1700kg) and looks to be either the same or slightly slower even though it is rated at 470bhp, with 4.1 seconds 0-60mph and quarter mile in 12.2 seconds. It is also not significantly bigger overall, being a couple of a finger widths lower, a couple of finger widths wider and a handwidth longer.

Misbehaving is what, IMO, this car is about. If that is lost, then it lost its soul.
Oh the irony. Making a totally misleading and dumb comparison (G87 vs GT, assessing only on weight. lol) and then wondering why people get mad.

THAT thing, that you JUST did, is why people get mad. It's dumb comparisons made in bad faith that only shit on the G87 without giving it any credit for the things it's actually good at. That's called arguing in bad faith, and that's what you just did.

Or ya know, arbitrary goalposts! Yes, yes, any car less tailhappy than the F87 has lost its soul, sure why not. And what will an E46 owner say to you? And what would an E30 owner say to them? and etc. etc.

That's called gatekeeping (or snobbery); it's pointless, it's insulting. You have no right to say their car has any less soul than yours, that's a dick move.

One last thing: putting "IMO" isn't a get out of jail card when you say trollish stuff like that. People will still get offended, and that's on you. In case you didn't know.

And the cool thing is that you can dial down all the nannies and be as tail happy as you want. This car delivers exactly what I was missing with my F87 in that regard. More control, but the ability to remove it when I want.

These first rounds of reviews were leashed because they didn't get to do that..., and, in spite of that, plenty of them kicked the tail out.

To be fair (I'm an obsessive devil's advocate, sorry), the G87 will *probably* lose some of that jitteryness and snap traction loss that the F87 has. Some people love that, and more power to them, I say. I happily did donuts in a FRS on its absurd Prius tires. Who am I to judge?

Historically, the CLAR-based M's seem to be very predictable and planted. The Arizona reviews seem to be backing that up. You are correct, we won't know for sure until the next round of reviews.

Also, and I'm sure we all agree without any dissent, that the best, prettiest, most soulful M car ever made was the F10 M5 with its S63 V8.

That was the last M car ever made that had any soul, BMW has been decline ever since, every car since has been a soulless car only bought by "corporate simps" (omg lol).

I mean, the F87 only has 2 head lights, it is obviously worse. It doesn't even have a bangle butt, it's not a real M!

IMO.

P.S. - the above is satire, I kid, I kid. Although the F10 was pretty dreamy IMO. I admit I lusted after it's sweeping good looks (halo angel eyes FTW) and well-rounded "good at everything" abilities. And that sexy V8.

Complains about people being an "an arse just bec a person doesn't love it as much as you do." Continues on to be an arse about his car because some reviewers drove the new one and preferred the old one. This clown hasn't even drove it yet.

I realize that it’ll be one of the last manuals ever offered so that alone was tempting but very few modern cars I’ve driven with MTs felt right - including the 992 GT3. Between the ultra light clutch, notchy or rubbery gear selector and long gearing (to meet new emission standards), I’ve come to accept that modern manuals aren’t for me. It also doesn’t help that modern cars are heavier which I feel somehow impacts manual gear changes because of the vehicle inertia.

Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.
Exactly, if your looking for a ‘pure’ driving experience that is to be found elsewhere.

I think a far better option is to look at some older cars if a pure driving experience is paramount. Sticking a manual in an m2 and expecting it to be a spine tingling experience is just going to leave you feeling disappointed. If you want a proper manual experience.. save the money, buy something that was designed around a manual transmission and not hamstrung by emission regulations. Or, enjoy the m2 as it’s intended, with an 8 speed auto and accept it us what it is.. which .. in reality is a fantastic and incredibly flexible transmission perfectly suited to what us a fast road car.

All just my views but I don’t think we should be surprised if the manual is reportedly disappointing.

Personally I’ll be curious to see if Joe Achilles gets his hands on a G87 to do one of his “long term” reviews, which seem to range anywhere from a week to a few months. He seems to be able to get cars longer-term even when they’re in high demand. I know a lot of people here seem to view him as a bit too much of a fan boy and less critical than he could be, but his longer term reviews have been pretty good and informative and he doesn’t seem to hesitate to find faults with cars when they’re there.

I just wish he’d quit banging on about the CF buckets lol. I’d love to have them and if I was single I would, but it’s hard to stomach adding ~10k to build a car my wife will hate riding in.
