If time is no concern, and you wish to stick with the BMW spec oil i see no reason not to have the dealer do it...assuming you trust the quality of work, but then how difficult is that task?
Yeah, my biggest thing is trusting a 9-5er on my car. Think I'm going to stick with DIY..$100 isn't breaking the bank and I have free time.

ZM240i my local dealer also has a good reputation and does enthusiast events on occasion. My buddy took his 2010 M3 for service there for the 10 years he had it and said they are great. But doing it yourself, you know there's no chance of unknown stuff happening.

Do you all have experiences with dealerships messing up an oil change?

I have never been to a dealer for any type of service.

My BRZ went to a performance shop that specializes in Subarus twice, once for a clutch replacement and once for a wheel hub and AC condenser replacement. I did oil, trans, diff, brake fluid/pads myself.

How many cars have your owned? Prior to having BMWs, I did all of the service on my own cars but since they offer it, why wouldn't I take advantage of it?

6 cars since getting my license in 1998.

It's a matter of spending $90 and DIY knowing what happened or saving $90 and hoping for the best. Granted, odds are probably low of having an issue, but you never know if the tech is having a shitty day.

In most cases in life I'm an optimist, but with cars I always fear the worst when in someone else's hands.

That's definitely fair. I don't feel like taking my car to a BMW dealership for an oil change is a "hoping for the best" sort of scenario though. I've been going to the same dealership for the last five years and have had no issues.

Now if I was driving a Honda or something I would probably be a bit hesitant to have it serviced there but BMW hasn't done me wrong yet.

Just did my first oil change and was surprised to find that the oil plug was only finger tight.

Can’t believe that there wasn’t oil leaking from the plug.

in over 50 years of driving, I've only had 2 oil changes done by a shop, one of em was this BMW since it was a freebe....did not have them put 0-20 in it.

It meets BMW LL 01. Probably doesn’t meet the standard for LL 04, which is exactly why I want it. Higher SAPS over MPG efficiency is my preference.

No.
UK engines call for 0W 30 BMW Longlife 12FE or 17+FE ACEA C2 or ACEA C5
There is a separate thread on this subject.

I can’t confirm if other European countries call for the same spec. check the manual.

Thanks buddy. I don't think the 0w/5w makes a difference in spring/summer, right? If so I may just go with a 0w30 that meets BMW spec.

What about the LSPI? I joke, but also I don’t think that flavor of Castrol is higher in any SAPS than calcium. I have some in the stash though so maybe I’ll get a VOA on it. I use it in our 21 JLU Rubicon.

On to changing the oil in the G42, I just did the lone wheel on the ramp and then dropped it to the floor to drain. My QuickJack is too short for this wheel base. Got 6.5 quarts out. Will try next time with both ramps and measure what I pull out.

I did a UOA on the factory fill that was in for 189 miles and can post if there’s any interest.
