The writing is on the wall for the manual transmission at BMW. It would be foolish to think otherwise.

Edit, It also would appear to be a fair warning to those that are waiting for a manual LCI. It just might not materialize.
Not so fast.

From the R&T article; Of course, van Meel added that the manual will stick around as long as customers demand it. So if you want thee-pedal options to remain available, be sure to put your money where your mouth is next time you buy a new car.

We were told that the “take rate” is unfavorable for the manual transmission via the BMW AG Product Manger for the M2 in the BMW BLOG interview video. In regards to the M2, I would believe what this gentleman has to say more than van Meel.

I'm at a weird stage with the design. I don't hate it, but I don't love it either. These are the issues I have with both the front and rear bumpers. I know this is all subjective, but I believe many share the same view on most of my gripes with the design.
The comments about the front bumper air intakes and the rear reflectors is exactly why I want to get the CF pieces for them

I always felt the F87 looked much better irl than it does in pictures, much like the G42. If the G87 follows the same suit then I'm going to be pretty happy because I already think it looks better than the F87 and G42 in pics

This person hit the nail on the head. The color is extremely dynamic in person depending on lighting conditions. His photos are fairly accurate in direct sunlight. The variance is honestly impressive, im a big fan.

Speak for yourself, there are "many of us" that do not want a new BMW! Especially a new M2/M3/M4. It has an auto trans and rear brakes you'd find better on a Kia sephia. If it weren't for AWD and new tire tech, the only improvement of the new M3/M4 would have been the interior that you can still find in a 2 series rental sedan the dealer gives me when I get new tires.

It's not salty, it's what does your dollar get you? A giant iPad with minimalistic design and a better dragy time picture to post or a car that is designed thoughtfully and has classic design cues.

End of rant, carry on. Please do not group us all together...

I think this is a great summary of the things I can't wrap my head around either.

It is really best to see the car in person and hopefully not in ZB.

I believe they attempting not only appeal to the younger demographic but also the young at heart, with this flamboyant styling decision. That consumer whom is just a notch above a Honda Type R or STI's pay-grade but below a GTR..

I am still probably going to get one in black because this might be the last opportunity to obtain a brand new BMW under warranty and such, with three pedals.

I just wished they had kept that classic BMW allure that one usually expects with this manufacturer, just maybe with a modern flair but they instead decided to green-light this lovechild of a Scion TC and STI 😒

Was talking to my neighbour's 20 year old son today who's a bit of a car nut. "He said have you seen the new M2? That thing is so ugly. What are BMW doing these days!" He's into Japanese cars too. My 17 year old son isn't a fan either but he does like the G82.

So I'm really not sure of the demographic they are going for? Maybe aimed at millennials or something? They grew up with Transformers and My Little Pony so this design is peak millennial.

I'm sure it's a great car. Maybe you just need to see it in the metal?

I'm 24 and I would absolutely not drive this. Not because it's too aggressive, but because the front end looks cross-eyed and the back has too many weird mishmashing angles. If it looked more cohesive I would consider picking one up to add to my E92.

As much as people may dislike certain aspects of this car, it's still the best looking car BMW offer from the current line up imo.
Take a scroll through what's on the front page even, there are some real horror shows on offer currently. Pretty much anything with an 'i' or an 'X' in the title for example.

I'm not sure either but I believe BMW saw the surprise appeal the previous model had with the younger crowd and even the slightly elder demographic, whom only entered the brand on the strength of this new, niche sporty model and figure they should turn up its successor all the way to 11. You know, since this formula worked perfect in moderation, why not OD. 🙄

I am a car enthusiast, so I'm always scouting reviews and feedback on random vehicles and I have to say the internet feedback on exclusively on the design of this new M2 has been overwhelmingly negative, in a wide spectrum of age ranges. It's almost gets annoying because most can't get past the extravagant design of this vehicle to talk about any other aspect of its offering.

So I hope this bold experiment works out for BMW because a nerd like me might be able to get pass its questionable styling choices and appreciate the pearls amongst the swine but typical younger consumers, especially Americans are overly vain with their purchase decisions and select automobiles mostly appearance over substance.

Honestly, me personally, a manual transmission without having to spend 100k+ on a comparable Porsche model is the only thing still keeping me tethered to the BMW brand, until maybe later on when I've sow my wild oats and ready to make a leap into maybe a big-dick energy 8 Series, just to cruise the boulevard. 😎
