BMW needs stop focusing of adding power
Which looks great on paper but doesn't always translate to better driving They should start to focus on reducing weight Yea it's nice to have 500 herspers....u til you realize they car is nearly 3800 lbs Remember when Nissan was putting out GTRs in 2008 and people were complaining how heavy it was and how big it was , but that it hid it's weight well due to trick AWD and computers Yea that car was also 3840 lbs I'd rather have a lighter weight M2 CS with ONLY 400 but it weighs less than 3400 lbs |

I don't understand that mentality. What would you lose if the car is made available in both RWD and xDrive? Nobody will force you to buy the xDrive one. But some people like me live in areas with snow on the ground six months of the year and AWD would make the car much more liveable. I currently own an M240i and would upgrade to an M2 in a heart beat if it was available with xDrive. Life is too short to drive a beater in winter months.

There's something unique and special about the simplicity of a rear wheel drive car Want all wheel drive buy all wheel drive but I seriously doubt we'll ever see xDrive on the BMW M2

It would be quite a surprise if BMW doesn't make a G87 M2 CS available someday (Dec 2022 - July 2029: enough time).
CS = €ompetition $port (€lub $port was no longer available: see here).

M xDrive is suppose to deliver 100% power to the rear unless there's slip, and even then it's very RWD biased. I'd love to have the added tractions that comes with that, but my one gripe is the added weight. This is already a heavy car, adding ~125lbs, mostly in the front, will make it less nimble IMO.
I'd like to test drive an M3/4 RWD and M3/4c M xDrive back to back. I don't believe I could be swayed away from RWD, but I'm open to at least feeling it out. The other elephant in the room however is if you want MT you can only get that on a RWD M3/4. TLDR: BMW wants to make sure no one is happy. |

If you think 4wd cars can't have incredible driving dynamics go drive a Porsche 911 4S.
If you think 4wd isn't necessary launch a 911 4S then rwd S. Point to point in the full range of real world conditions and maximising performance especially when putting down over 450hp to everything except a drag strip 4wd is superior. Yes a 911 is an outlyer and must 4wd cars paddle in feel to the rwd counterparts. But if anyone can get it cost in execution to Porsche its BMW and the G42 is proof that they're getting there. Feasible to think they could really pull it off with the full fat M2 with xdrive. Regardless, BMW should give us, the buyer, the enthusiast, the choice to configure a manual rwd ultimate feel "drivers car" or a fully auto xdrive ultimate performance "drivers car" and not cut choice purely to force one segment to buy a pricier 3 or 4 series purely to pick the drivetrain configuration that caters to their specific wants and needs. Hell, I'd pay M3/M4 prices for an M2 in the exacting Spec I wanted anyway purely because I don't need the big back seats, the grill is ass ugly and the 4inch shorter and slightly lighter chassis dynamic of the M2 is in my mind, BMW's current generation ultimate driving machine. |

The notion that you need an AWD car for the snow is severely overrated. Snow tires > AWD. |

Not sure about that especially if u have awd summer perf vs rwd snow. I had a rwd snow and dropped it off for service and got a awd with all season. Service mgr told me to watch out because it will drive worse than my rwd in snow and he was right. Snows help with turning , stopping and accelerating while awd only helps with accelerating. Just the thought of saying awd launches better in snow sounds odd. No one launches in winter in a snow storm unless ur the one that is in the ditch with the truck drivers who think 4wd will save them.

There was a snow test done years ago, a small AWD SUV with all seasons vs the same SUV (RWD) with snows. You know which one...RWD with snows. Now take the AWD and put snows on...

Yes, much slower cars, with narrow all seasons or winters.

The 911 4S is for people who want a 911 but have no idea how to drive one.
