Would it be possible to order the performance non RFT with the higher top speed limiter then arrange with the dealer after delivery to change out the tires to AS run flats? Would they also be required to lower my TSL accordingly? Obviously I can do it after delivery, but I don't want an extra set of tires.

The dealership would never change the speed limiter after you buy the car. You'd probably be able to get them to mount and balance a new set of tires for free but I doubt they would give you all-seasons and take your summers for free.

That's actually what I am doing. I got the high performance non-run flats and negotiated with my dealership to mount and balance new tires before I take delivery for free, but I have to buy the tires. I plan to just keep the summers and whenever I go to sell the car I will have brand new tires to increase the sell price.

The one thing that I haven't worked out yet is if I am going to go with Ultra High Performance All-Seasons or just an actual winter tire, since this car will just be my winter/bad weather car.

I would think if your bad-weather includes temps above 45*, then the UHP A/S would be the way to go. I wish BMW put them on as stock instead of the "generic" A/S's they do currently.

BTW, I love your interior color choice on your M3. I've seen many of the posts on the M3 forums, but you almost never see/hear of anyone with the blue/black interior. It'd be my choice if were ordering an M3.

What bothers me about the TSL difference is BMW makes the decision to lower my TSL from 155 to 135
because of what I select for tires. So I can have an identical G42 as someone parked beside me, but because he has performance tires and I don't , my top speed limit is 135mph. Well, if we both crash at our top speeds, I doubt either of us will survive. 20 MPH less on the limiter isn't going to ensure anyone's survival. Sorry, but if I pay for the same options other than tires, I want the same top speed too!

It’s about avoiding crashes in the first place. All tires have max speed limits, independent of what car they are on. Sustain driving above that max speed can result in tire failure. BMW is not going to allow a 155 mph max speed limiter if the tires they sell with it have a max speed rating of 140 mph. That’s a lawsuit waiting to happen when someone inevitably crashes because they were pegging the speed governor with the stock tires and the tire failed.

If you want the higher performance then pay for it. Tires are a very important item when it comes to speed and handling. It’s not like choosing if you want leather or pleather seats.

Thanks, yeah I am really excited about the M3. Seeing as I did an individual exterior and then as less selected interior and loaded pretty much everything else up it could end up being a 1 of 1 car.

Must be too difficult to offer these and other high performance all season tires to those of us in the colder climates, especially if one wants the higher TSL in the G42. Pretty clear what BMW is doing here. Make us order the summer performance tire package then have to order a winter tire package thru the dealer, etc.

Some, but not most, will buy their winter sets from their dealer. While I feel the majority will order from Tire Rack, etc, and not put the $ into the dealer's pocket. But yes, for the A/S we should get the Michelin PSAS4, or the Conti's standard.

Looks like my car which was ordered November 22nd will be at the dealer ready to pick up on December 29th. That's only 5 weeks and 2 days!

They called me today and wanted me to pick it up by the 30th but unfortunately we have been snowed in and not only is our road not plowed but the highway is closed. So I'm going to have to wait.

73 inches of snow has fallen at our house in the last 5 days. This is what the road looks like.

Congrats on the upcoming delivery. You ordered the day before I did. Mine is sitting on a ship in Altimira Port Mexico...Hopefully it will set sail soon !!

Good luck with the truck getting thru the snow to the dealer and safe travels with it once you take possession.

I don't get how people who ordered their cars in September (including me) have no idea where the hell their car is but yet people who ordered in late November already have their cars ready for delivery?

WTF BMW? I guess fuck the people who have been waiting months

There are always trade offs. Those tires may not achieve BMW’s desired noise levels, fuel economy, or price.

Totally in agreement here. I'm in the same situation with my vehicle. Ordered in late August and it's been sitting in Quality Check since November 12th! Seven weeks and counting with no movement nor any information on what specifically is causing the hold up.

I can't recall where I saw the post, but someone remarked that most European customers do not use all season tires, and usually switch between summer and winter sets. To stock different sizes in not just all season, but an ultra performance all season probably complicates production when its just for North American customers. Also with all season tires, which specific tire has which top speed probably also complicates the situation.

I'm just grateful we can order non run-flat tires from the factory.

At this point I'm not sure how I would feel when I see it has moved off QC. It's what I've come to expect every time I check, and every time I have checked since 11/12

My car was ordered in Sept, was built and delivered to the port in GA on 11/9 where it has sat ever since. If this thing doesn't arrive soon I may take something else home, Im impatient.

I don't think offering a UHP A/S would be any additional complexity at the plant level if it was the only A/S offering. As it stands, most wheels options have 3- separate tires choices.

You got 6' of snow?!?! No thanks.

Nice dog, Siberian Husky? I've had a few, I have 2- Alaskan Malamutes now. Gotta love the sled dogs, they have so much personality!

I don't want to derail the thread but yes he's a 75% Husky and the rest is Malamute and German Shepard. 10 1/2 years old. I get the "is he a wolf?" question all the time. Good dog for this climate!

The M240i not so much. I had to order the all-season tire's because I read that the Michelin Summer tires will actually crack below 20F, and that happens here about 5 months of the year even if there is no snow on the ground.

I'll probably keep it in the SF Bay Area at a family member's house until April due to the severity of this winter.

To the people waiting, yes, my dealer had an allocation queued up. I think they had ordered it for the dealership instead of holding it for a customer, but not sure how that works. They modified it to my specifications and it went right into production . They also had a Thundernight loaded one in stock but I didn't want that color. I believe they are the largest BMW dealership in Northern California which might have had something to do with it.
