I disagree. I used to daily my 997.1 to work every day, grocery shopping, etc. It was fabulous. Once I had kids, totally different ball game. Even a sedan won't cut it now. I need rear doors and a hatch or else things get too stressful/annoying when running errands or traveling.

It helped that my 911 was used and very affordable, however. I admit I wouldn't want to daily drive a brand new 911. Not because it's not capable, but I'm too financially conscious to depreciate a car that expensive that quickly.

Steven - I'm a bit shocked to hear it's not working out for you! My comments before were purely about the cost/fun ratio. Sure, I think the appeal of a Carrera T is that you can get it with buckets and have a pseudo-GT3 experience for Carrera money, but even with sofas, it would make for one hell of a DD. I like your shoe analogy, but I'm curious as to why it wasn't a good fit. Too much $/worry compared to the bimmer? Getting heckled by the cops or stink-eyed by haters at the grocery store? Lifted pick-up truck drivers trying to kill you? All are valid reasons, but just curious more than anything.

My post yesterday was probably an impatient reaction to the process of acclimating to such an alien-seeming vehicle. Today's outing was lots more fun. My mood swings about the car and ownership have been all over the map.

At times, this car can seem archaic, complicated, and confusing. Plus, you make a good point about the stress of $/value, and WhyTF do I need a car like this to worry about at every moment?

The T is indisputably excellent, with just minor niggles that don't amount to much. But as I said before, even though the P-car is "better", I doubt that it'll ever hold the place in my heart that the BMW did. Falling in 'car love' is more complicated than a list of stats and performance comparisons.

We'll have to wait and see whether I can adapt to Porsche's quirks, and to relax and simply enjoy it regardless of the unsettling price of admission.

I think you need to own multiple to pop your fear cherry. Once you get over the cost and build a rapport with the model, you’ll be fine. Some folks, the 911 is their only car.

I can somewhat relate, I had a Boxster s for the day, went to the beach, drove around and did some highway runs. It was a glorious machine but it left me tired at the end of the day and it just felt like it was a one trick pony: excellent fun. Being a rag top, it was loud which contributed to the tired feeling and while it's no 911, it had a similar configuration.

OP, you bought the car, I suggest to get the best enjoyment just take it day by day and appreciate the little things about the car and not think too much about regret. It will eat you up. Maybe take it on a road trip or just go out and get drunk and take your mind off it.

Congrats OP! My sister bought a Macan S last week and the sales guy saw I was bored to death watching her sign documents. He let me drive a CPO 2018 Carrera T. I took out for about 30 minutes and it was a blast. It's light, it's responsive, and the exhaust sound is addicting. Oh how I wish I had a $100k lying around the house. Lol.

It’s a big move going from a 240 to a 911. I thought it was a big move going from an M4 to a 991.1S and 991.2S, which it is. They are much more engineered machines down to the smallest thing. What I love is that they still do feel like a 911 but never stray from their true roots and deliver a driving experience I don’t think any other manufacturer comes close to matching.
You just need to get over the money factor and enjoy because once you do, you’ll really never want to drive anything again.
Congrats on the purchase! Although, for me, a T needs to be bought in manual where Porsche sprinkled their magical pickle dust and made something special. Even my friends which GT3s can’t stop talking about the T.

I know how you feel about coming from BMW to Porsche, mine is a different way but I still love BMWs. Always will as I had two! I want to get an older M car soon. Just roll those windows down and put the pedal down! Weather here isn't close to being good enough like you have it and I can't wait to open my sunroof up and just drive!

Look you can do it but TBH it's a PITA. If you live in the north the winter is going to be shite, worries about rust, clearance, messing up the interior etc.

Even without that you are worried about clearance in parking lots, driveways, getting dings, general wear and tear, can't carry shit with it ..... it's just a PITA. They're comparatively loud, bumpy and generally less refined than one wants on a commute.

Doable, but why would you unless you have a nice, clear, smooth winding road to and from work??

One of the overlooked aspects of the 911 in terms of daily-driver-ability is the front overhang. After getting used to the short front overhang on my previous 135i, I've lightly scrapped the bottom of the front bumper on my Accord quite a few times pulling into not-so-steep driveways and parking lots. The 2-series also has a pretty short overhang and is quite forgiving in that regard.

The 911 on the other hand, must demand close attention! Perhaps the front axle lift option can help, but is it effective enough to justify the cost/complexity? I have no clue, but I can see the worry and/or occasional scrape detracting from the ownership experience.

Having said that, a 911 Carrera T and 911 GT3 Touring are my dream cars. OP, enjoy it in good health!

You can replace the front lip in a 911 for <$300. I stopped worrying about little dings and rock chips and just enjoy it! I'll probably have around 70k miles when I trade mine and those buying cars of that age aren't as picky.
I've been dailying a Porsche sports car for 8 years (Cayman then 911). Of course it helps that I live in S. Texas and our kids are in their 20s.

I found that the dealer had set the recommended tire pressures 6# overinflated in the front, and a whopping 14# in the rear. I corrected them, and then reset the TPMS to my preferences.

The excessive ride harshness (which had been my #1 concern) has been fully eliminated. The T is now **very** enjoyable – in fact, it's a whole different experience!

To celebrate, I ordered a few simple (non-performance) mods online. Good dad, hehe.

This is any exotic/high performance car though. I started getting used to this with my WRX, which has far more overhang due to the engine in front of the axle, but then with my subsequent cars, including the lowered bmw, it's never been an issue. You don't go into a place that you aren't sure you can get out of. You take transitions (driveways, entrances) at an angle, an extreme angle if necessary, to prevent scraping. Apart from these cars, more cars are coming with lower air-dams to improve aerodynamics for efficiency. When you start driving stuff like a 911, it's not really the front overhang, it's the combination of the nose length (overhang), the low fascia, and the overall height of the car.

I can't count how many people I see that still ram the wheel into the curb when they park...on cars that won't clear it.

Good on you! I've seen that before. For my BMW, it was the crappy fun-flat tires. The ride wasn't terrible, but I could tell something was wrong. With the 911 T, I'd think the suspension should be daily-driveable. On my 1LE, it's not harsh, but it's firm, exactly how I like it. A ZL1-1LE is more akin to a GT3 RS, which only exists as a "DD" for every internet hero that is trying to rationalize their purchase, you can usually spot these because they'll also tell you how great the car is in the snow too.
