The key question for buyers: do you want a car that objectively performs better, or one that is more subjectively fun/ appealing? Each person has to decide… one thing is for sure, as he pointed out, BMW plays mental gymnastics on us and has for decades.

This car is really really good, and it’s super hard to ignore the logical progression.

It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely a better road car.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my F87. Love it to pieces...

That being said, I'd love a more comfortable ride. It's probably why, for the most part, the M2C is reserved for my commute to work and back. A whopping round trip of about 6 miles. Add in 4 more when I go get lunch, and that's 10 miles of driving a day. I drive the wife's CX-5 on the weekends as it is much more comfortable.

Realistically, it's going to be some time before I get a new car.

Enjoy your G87s, gents! I'm a bit jealous!
Bro how much do you hate that cx5? I HATE my wife’s 2014 HATE

Comparing a guy who is sponsored by lexus and who plugged cars like the Lexus LC500 as well as Kia SUVs to someone who's hosted numerous motoring shows, owned exotic cars, a ton of m cars and is an amateur race car driver is absolutely wild lol.

He did mutilate his own M2CS with rock hard suspension though. Hence the comment on beating him up when he drove it. Stock suspension on the CS fixed the occasional problem on the C where you could get bounced off line and is quite a bit more comfortable too.

G8x is designed to be a much better daily driver than F models and it truly is. It does lose something on the fun aspect but way less people care about this nowadays.

However, I don’t have a commute so I just get to enjoy the feels without the downsides. If I did have a commute and only one car it might be a very different story. That’s where the G87 excels.

A F87cs was significantly more expensive then a G87 when I ordered my car, and there was no hope of finding one local to me. Otherwise with the adaptive suspension I definitely would have considered. But if I have to spend 100k for a used CS vs 70k for a brand new car with warranty? For me (who also likes the design) it was a no brainier.

He also posted a IG story about a month ago where he said he liked the G87 so much he wanted to buy it from BMW but they would only sell it to him at full MSRP even though it was a used press car so he passed. Don’t be surprised if he gets it or M2 CS next year.

Problem is they are not that good and offer very little in terms of useful or accurate information in many cases. Do not watch they dont get paid. They offer nothing you cant sort for yourself. They test yet dont own what others will buy. That limited view is joke in most all cases.

Chris says It is more a daily M car.

I think the F87 is more playable and nimble. As a daily car i think the new one is better. But as a trackday car you could better choose something lighter.

Nah - UK journos are not that great either. You have to pick one of the good ones. At the end of the day, they all write for entertainment primarily, so you have to factor that in.

I guess he knew he was late to the party, so no sense in dwelling on previously discussed topics. So he just needed to give his overall impressions.

That said, are you surprised he likes the car better than the previous one, including the CS, and he’s amazed anyone could get in a F87 (OG, C, or CS) and not think the G87 is just objectively better? I think you doubted he would.
The thing is I did exactly that and hated the new car, it’s FUGLY as hell compared to the last car, the engine map is sluggish, the weight makes it clumsy and the info screen and drive options a nightmare. I honestly didn’t prefer any aspects of it compared to my CS dct. It’s difficult to understand what he was driving. I think a CS version could bring back some of the excitement i few in my car but the looks I cannot agree with…and i like the current M3

The new M2 had a record setting track day on the Nurburgring. I'm sure it will be enough of a trackday car for 99.9% of the population.

It's hilarious how the opinion of one motoring journalist has made G-people foam at the mouth and go out to place a deposit. I find the G series M2 to be ugly to look at, overweight and bloated with tech but that's just me. They took the purist out of the equation somewhat with this car but sure, cherish the fact this will most likely be the last manual "M2" there will ever be.

I couldn't give a rat's proverbial what Harris has to say about the matter. The fact he raved about every single F87 chassis - one after the other - should speak volumes to where this dude's opinion belongs... to himself.

And yet, the same people claiming us F87 M2 owners simply "bash" the G87 because it is what it is, need a reminder that buying a car because someone else said so is the dumbest thing since shelling out for an NFT because your mate liked coked-out monkey jpegs.

It is always the same. Complain -> accept -> praise.

There are only three companies in the world that can do magic with vehicle dynamics: BMW, Porsche and Ferrari. All others have to innovate on something else…

Interesting how Chris Harris brought the trolls out by selling his CS and praising the G87. Heresy!!! All these trolls happen to be F87 owners. Especially the CS owners. lol!!!
