I just launched bimmercode app to check for the update you mentioned. updated and i'll check my car tmw, thanks! i had been checking through the apple app store with no luck.
The update is in the app itself. Launch it, press the lower right settings wheel and click “check for updates”…it updates the coding databases within the app, not the app itself.

AS/S defaults are tied to your seat memory. Just disable and save the settings for your seat and it will stick.

Just curious, 1. Why would they be driving your car around & 2. What would it matter if AS/S was activated?

I am not sure if it was this update, or some previous update (maybe to Android Auto?) but I am now getting directions through the HUD while using Waze. It is very basic directional instructions but better than nothing, I guess.

Just done this update. Settings for M1/M2 buttons were lost. Also seat setting for memory position 1 seems ok but position 2 was lost*.

Also if you push the seat base control forward it goes backwards, push back and it goes forward (passenger side too). They haven’t always been like that have they? Am I just going mad?

*Dont think seating was lost. Think instead of positioning the seat all the way back (memory 2) it’s trying to send the seat forward due to base control getting reversed. Very weird.

Spoke to dealer. They said try parking it up locked for half an hour and it might sort itself, if not bring it in.

And it’s worked. Now buttons working correctly. Wonder if I’d have just left it the M1/M2 settings would have come back too. Everything else seems ok.

I left it locked up and did not drive it till the next day. My M1/M2 settigns were lost, the mirror dip in reverese was reset as well. The artificail engine sounds were back alive too. So far those are the things I noticed.

I received the notification this afternoon that the software update was ready to be installed. * I did not install the update*. Immediately after receiving that notification the car would not connect to my phone. Reset iDrive twice, turned my phone off then back on, no luck. Will see if it connects in the morning. Irritating.

I'm a software engineer and I've learned to never install a patch unless there's an upside. Every patch has risk, often significant risk, so you gotta be giving me something. Especially when it's hard to revert, as it often is for cars and appliances.

My G87 is still running factory firmware, and will stay that way as long as I can manage it.

I am struggling to think of a good enough benefit that I'd update voluntarily. I can only think of one, and that's sports mode on startup.

Edit: or round gauge clusters.

Installed the update with car parked in the garage.

Next day auto stop/start active upon engine start. Before the update this was off at engine start.

Turned auto stop/start off via the button.

Turned off engine. Upon restart auto stop/start off as before the update. Several trips since and the auto stop/start is still disabled at engine start.

So far all the settings in effect before the update are in effect after the update.

Do you have a manual or automatic transmission?

Be really careful - this update totally bricked my head unit for a few days. The only thing I had coded was BW audio settings, so it definitely had nothing to do with that. Days after I installed the update, it was acting normal, then all of a sudden one morning, the AC, back-up camera, Bluetooth, sat-nav, almost all electronics completely went out without any explanation. Pretty much all I could do was drive it. I used Bimmercode to recode it to a backup of the head unit software, and that worked and now I'm updated and back to normal, but it was really scary. I have an appointment at my dealer set for Friday just to ensure there's nothing permanently wrong.

At this point I am just going to hold off on updates unless something important comes out. Takes to long to recode and I forget what I had changed… need my purple ambient lights.

I would say the use of Bimmercode to change config settings to values outside of what BMW tested caused the issue, as opposed to the software update.

Ensuring the software config can be restored to BMW expected values for a given factory options set and given market is paramount. It is good that you had a backup.

I would expect at some point BMW will start charging for rectifying software issues caused by 3rd-party tools or “unofficial” use of BMW software tools (such as “bootleg” E-Sys copies), even if the car is under warranty.

I ultimately think you're correct. I'm not even going to touch coding again out of an abundance of caution, regardless of how "harmless" the setting may be.

I’m guessing you don’t work for CrowdStrike.

Man, don't even get me started on kernel level programs and the problems they cause. The number of times they've bricked my servers is terrifying.

I think I will get a Femto unlock and tuning and then I will have to disable updates and won’t have to worry about updates screwing anything up! And my car will be like 600whp.
