Good job BMW engineers. Would have been fatal if it was something else.

Regular insurance doesn’t usually cover drag strip wrecks especially with a tuned car running slicks. It’s baffling why someone would hold the wheel with just one hand during high-speed drag runs when there are paddles for a reason. It’s seems like they were inexperienced and using the car in ways it’s wasn’t meant for.
The footage might reveal more about what happened; a blowout is a possibility especially if the slicks were cold. Learning from experiences like these is crucial in the car world. |

There's a visible change in the track surface when the car starts veering. Slicks + high speed + start of deceleration + change in track surface/friction + ...
Or, could it be a kind of snap over-steer (6:26 in the video)? Last edited by pimple; 06-01-2024 at 05:43 PM.. |

lol I see people on here criticizing his driving but have never driven a car that fast 😂.He’s done these speeds on the road without much if any prep. Look him up on YouTube or IG he has a TTRS that’s even faster. 100% agree with him needing a cage, I hope this is a wake up call for all of these fast BMW guys don’t have a cage!

Got damn thats a fast car. Glad the dude came out unscathed.
Looks like there was plenty of safety equipment. Airbags and such. Pretty cool set up, hopefully they can pull some parts for the next project.

Typically no. You should buy track insurance, instead.
https://www.hagerty.com/insurance/tr...nsurance/faqs# Doesn’t my auto insurance policy protect my car during an HPDE event? Most standard auto insurance policies do not cover HPDE events. Auto insurers have started adding specific language excluding “track,” “high performance,” “HPDE-type,” “racing or speed contest events,” or while on a “racing surface.” Without HPDE insurance, you might not be covered in the event of an accident or damage to your car. |

Took the car over a 1/4 mile to come to a complete stop after losing control, he was just along for the ride at that point. Extremely fortunate it did not flip.

People have tried that. You face jail time and fines for insurance fraud.

Hmmm..insurance fraud is a felony...with everyone having cell phones, don't count on the "incident" not being filmed and made public.

All in, I would imagine the guy was into his M240i xDrive for about $60k to $70k ..... including all the work and modifications.
Just the car by itself probably has (had) a current market value of near $50k. Quite a huge loss. But apparently, he has already acquired another G42. I wonder if any of his mods were salvageable. |

At least this was the track vs the street. Glad he’s ok.
Maybe lost tire pressure? Tires will spin on the wheel and cause a loss of pressure or could break the bead. So after a couple of seconds the tire might have lost enough air pressure to cause the car to pull. If you chalk the tire at the valve stem and launch the car hard enough, I almost guarantee the chalk line is going to not be at the valve stem on the rear tires.
