You got that backwards. When Joe is following Tim (SHMEE150) Joe is in the 50th M camo manual, and Tim in the black/white swirl auto.

Well payed BMW😉
I mean our OG M2s got the same lame sport seats that the f20s and f30s got, just a unique stitch color and a little embossed M logo.

Maybe bmw will follow suit and update them with the m3/m4 seats for the LCI refresh ala f87 competition.
I know the BMW modular parts sharing formula like the back of hand but I guess I was expecting something a little more unique for the G87, considering that the model has a way more established presence and popularity now than the original F87, thus, not just an experimental spin-off of such..

But it was all wishful thinking because the G87 is almost the same exact size and weight as the G82 M4, just some parts has been scaled down to keep the price just a notch under its bigger brother's offering.

The only saving grace is the manual option or else I would honestly take my 65k+ elsewhere.. 😗

Seeing Competition related FOMO I don't understand. “What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell just as sweet.”

Quote:
Speaking of CS models and other variants, no word on the new M2 naming convention. But our own sources say that the new “Baby-M” will come to market with just the M2 badge. It’s unclear whether there will be room for an M2 Competition or the M wizards will simply bring out the big guns: the M2 CS and the fan favorite M2 CSL.
Emphasis added.

2023 EPA application:
https://dis.epa.gov/otaqpub/display_...d=55202&flag=1

It looks like both G87 MT & G87 AT will be introduced with S58T (Top Leistungsstufe/Top Power Level), same performance class as the M3/4 G8X AT with Competition badge. Very much unlike F87 introduction with the N55 engine (B58 predecessor) and unlike M3/4 G8X MT base with S58O (Obere Leistungsstufe/Upper Power Level).

Nomenclature aside, the base entry M2 having the M4C power delivery is really something positive in the G87 column.. 👍🏻

No way in hell the base M2 will be only 4K less than the base M3. It's definitely going to be under 65K
I'll bet you $1,000 the starting price is over $65K.

Word.

I can't stand that guy and his fake persona. He's got a sheep following, but I can't listen to him talk for more than 5 seconds without getting annoyed.

I didn't read the review, but for sure: If BMW had to design custom hardware just for the M2, they'd never find a business case for it. Nor is BMW unique in doing this. Porsche GT models borrow upgraded components from Turbo models all the time. And likewise Cadillac Blackwings from Corvettes.

I love my G80 6mt so if the M2 comes with similar power (455ish is what is rumored, no?) and the same drivetrain and steering; with a *slightly* lower weight and shorter wheelbase... this could be a fantastic car! I'm curious if they'll introduce a new wheel design or just carry over the M3/M4 options. I know the sizes will be identical.

Plus, us M3/M4 manual owners don't get the tri-color stitched shift boot I saw in some of the videos small detail but still nice.

This is really interesting, unless it is a typo.
According to their statements at the presentation of the M3/4 G8x, 550nm is the limit (at least, what they consider to be the limit...) for the manual gearbox, so if both the M2 AT and M2 MT will have the same specs, I wonder how they tuned the T0 to meet this limit and why they didn't option for the O0 (considering that the power will also be closer to that of the 6MT M3/4).

A few random predictions:

1. With a couple options, price will be around 70k

2. Weight will be around 3700 lbs

3. Nurburgring lap time around 7:40

Maybe I'm interpreting the initial impressions wrong but it's not the parts and platform sharing that I'm concerned with, it's that we might not be getting a big enough dose of the M2's hooligan character that I'm so used to with the F87.

After all, if the Z4 and Supra can coexist on the same bones but are different dynamically, I'm sure BMW can wring out some rowdiness from the G87 with a little more fine tuning (and I'm hopeful they will before release).

That's really odd. Why would the base M2 get the higher output S58 variant that the M3/4C get? That's a head scratcher.

Maybe to give it some push in the marketplace amongst the competition..

It certainly swayed me towards the plus column for the G87..

However, it's kind of odd or just the BS coming to light but I remember BMW said they couldn't add any more torque to the current power margins for the manual gearbox they are using, max around 400lbs.

So it's either now they're pushing the margins and give the manual M2 more power on the manual box for the top output S58 or it was all simply marketing talk before..

But then there is this from the technical manual, it's seems a specific S58 version and power variation is fitted to either/or the manual or automatic gearbox:

Or while the power output between manual and automatic is the same (all reviewers I saw mentioned that), the torque might be lower for the manual one - I don't think anybody claimed same torque.

The torque of the Competition and the power of the base model would create a really weird power delivery, with strong midrange and weak top end, a kind of turbodiesel. Better to keep the torque low so as not to feel too much of a drop of boost at high rpm.
