World Series Celebration At City Hall

Took these pics w/my cam off of the TV of the World Series celebration at City Hall in SF. They are in low res and some are kinda blurry but what'd expect? Will try to post better pics when find them online. But, for now, here they are:

Must say that the World Series trophies look pretty impressive when you see them all together!

Mayor Ed Lee giving Larry Baer and Bruce Bochy the Key to the City.

The team posing with the trophies.

Dynasty or not? Who knows? All we know is that only the Giants have won 3 World Series titles in the past 5 years!!! GO GIANTS!!!

5 Hall of Famers & Barry Joining in the celebration!

I've been a SF Giants fan since they first moved to SF in 1958 and had the privilege of watching the 5 Hall of Fame players pictured below play at Candlestick Park in the 1960's as well as Barry at ATT in the 1990's-2000's. It was great to see them still around to be able to share in the celebration.

Among the the HOFers, Mays won a WS title w/the NY Giants in 1954 and Cepeda won a WS title w/the Cards in 1967 but McCovey, Marichal and Perry were never able to win a WS with any team they played with. Barry also never won a WS title; the closest he came was in 2002 when the Giants lost the WS to the Angels.

Willie Mays with Mayor Ed Lee and Larry Baer

Willie (the "Say Hey Kid") Mays

Played with the Giants from 1951 through 1971 and part of 1972 before being traded to the Mets. Retired playing with the Mets in 1973.

Elected to HOF in 1979: 1951 NL ROY, 2x NL MVP, 12x Golden Glover, 20x All-Star & 2x AS MVP; 1x NL Hitting Leader in 1954 (.345); 4x NL HR Leader in 1955 (51), 1962 (49), 1964 (47) & 1965 (52); and 4x NL Stolen Base Leader in 1956 (40), 1957 (38), 1958 (31) & 1959 (27).

Career: .302 BA (187th), 3283 Hits (12th), 660 HRs (4th), 1903 RBIs (11th), 1464 Walks (22nd) and 338 SBs (119th).

Willie (the "Stretch") McCovey

Played with the Giants from 1959 through 1973. He was traded and played with the Padres from 1974-1976. He was then released and/or traded to A's in 1976 but returned to play with the Giants from 1977-1980 until he retired.

Elected to HOF in 1986: 1959 NL ROY, 1x NL MVP, 6x All-Star & 1x AS MVP; 3x NL HR Leader in 1963 (44), 1968 (36) & 1969 (45); 2x NL RBI Leader in 1968 (105) & 1969 (126).

Career: .270 BA (985th), 2211 Hits (180th), 521 HRs (18th) and 1555 RBIs (42nd)

Orlando (the "Baby Bull") Cepeda

Played with the Giants from 1958 through 1965 and part of 1966 when he was traded to the Cardinals. Later played with the Braves, A's and Red Sox until he retired playing with the Royals in 1974.

Elected to HOF in 1999: 1958 ROY, 1x NL MVP & 7x All-Star; 1x NL HR Leader in 1961 (46); 2x NL RBI leader in 1961 (142) & 1967 (111).

Career: .297 BA (256th); 2351 Hits (131st), 379 HRs (67th) and 1365 RBIs (85th).

Juan (the "Domincan Dandy") Marichal

Played with the Giants from 1960 through 1973. Played with the Red Sox in 1974 and retired after playing only 2 games with the Dodgers in 1975.

Elected to HOF in 1983: 9x All-Star & 1x AS MVP -- Most NL wins by a pitcher in 1963 (25) & 1968 (26); Best NL ERA in 1969 (2.10); Most NL Innings Pitched in 1963 (321.3) & 1968 (325.7); Most NL Complete Games in 1964 (22) & 1968 (30) & Most NL Shutouts in 1965 (10) & 1969 (8).

Don't miss these stats: In 1968, Marichal pitched 325.7 innings, 30 COMPLETE GAMES and won 26!!!! Makes today's pitchers look like total wimps!!!!!

Career: 2.89 ERA (133rd); 243 Wins (54th); 244 Complete Games (88th); 52 Shutouts (18th); 2303 Strikeouts (48th).

Gaylord (the "Spitball") Perry

Played with the Giants from 1962-1971. Played with a wide variety of other teams in both the NL and AL until he retired playing with the Royals in 1983.

Elected to HOF in 1991: 2x Cy Young, 5x All-Star -- Most NL Wins by a pitcher in 1970 (23), 1972 (24) & 1978 (21); Most NL Innings Pitched in 1969 (325.3) and 1970 (328.7); Most NL Complete Games in 1972 (29) and 1973 (29); Most NL Shutouts in 1970 (5).

Also note, Gaylord's 1970 stats: Pitched 328.7 innings & won 23 games -- 5 by shutouts!!! Bumgarmer ONLY pitched 269 2/3 innings (including the post season) this year and the media is making a BIG deal about it.

Old school pitchers like Marichal and Perry routinely pitched over 300 innings and won over 20 games a year (during the season alone)!!!!

Career: 3.11 ERA (204th); 314 Wins (17th); 303 Compete Games (39th); 53 Shutouts (16th); 3534 Strikeouts (8th).

Career MLB Homerun Leader and Willie Mays' Godson Barry

Played with the Pirates from 1986 through 1992 and played with the Giants from 1993 until he retired in 2007.

Barry will probably NEVER be elected to the HOF in my lifetime, but he is nonetheless a 7x NL MVP, 8x Golden Glover, 12x Silver Slugger & 14x All-Star.

Career: .298 BA (234th); 2935 Hits (33rd); 762 HRs (1st); 1996 RBIs (4th); 2558 Walks (1st); 514 SBs (33rd).

Note: All statistical data is taken from Baseball Reference.com. Any clerical mistakes made are mine. Please call any that you find to my attention and I'll correct them.

Thanks!

Same here, thanks for sharing. Wore all my gear for Halloween at the office today (went as Hunter Pence, in the off-season, still with the tallest black socks known to mankind but with shorts, Giants Hawaiian shirt, shades & black Tevas).

Gaylord looks like he is still in pretty good health. McCovey is the worst off and is mostly likely to go before any of the others.

Barry recently had hip surgery and is walking with a limp.

I was actually initially thinking about Bob feller, not sure why. Met him as a kid. But didn't know gaylord was around either.

Sports Illustrated Covers

Interesting, SI didn't print a cover featuring the Giants until they made it to the WS and had already won it all, but had a cover featuring Kershaw & the Dodgers, Wainwright and the Cards, McCutchen & the Pirates, Adam Jones & the Orioles and 3 on the Royals featuring Holland, Hosmer & Butler on the covers.

See: http://www.si.com/more-sports/photos...-covers-2014#1

Just goes to show how the media ALWAYS underestimates the Giants.
