I absolutely concede that my comments are applicable in the US only. Your European experience may vary.

I guess my age is showing in regards to this tuning discussion. I’m satisfied driving our factory prepared 240 cars and have no intention of modifying the G87 whenever (if) it arrives. Full optimization is great for you guys who need to squeeze out maximum performance. Go for it. Call me a purist or old guy, not sure which; perhaps a combination of the 2.

93 is a waste unless you have a specific tune calling for it. I believe the car calls for 91 and using 91 is perfectly fine. You get no benefit from using 93.

My S5 calls for 93...as to the M2, I suggest you check the owners manual. It calls for 93 octane. You are free to have your opinion, but giving bad advice saying no benefit to 93. I am under no condition running 91 octane.

Maybe the newer model will call for 93 and if it is the case I will get that. My 2008 E90 335i calls for 91 and I only have filled it up with 91 since day 1. Still running great 15 years later.

Man, you can compare that motor to what is in the '23 M2. (twin turbo S58).

See page 291 of the owners manual for fuel info.

Awesome. Thank you. 93 for the G87 it is. The manual of my E90 calls for 91.

All I meant to say was that unless you have a tune calling for a specific octane, you waste your money if you use higher octane than recommended.

Peace.

I really dont think BMW builds a motor around States that dont carry 93 octane. That is really a consumer issue. You can always use octane booster.

Have you done any research if there are one off station that carry higher octane? There is a lot of street racing in California.

Here in Florida there are places you can get up to 118 through a drive up pump.

When I lived in Gainesville, on my way to Gainesville Raceway on Saturday nights, I used to pull into the Gainesville airport and they would pump 105 out of the fuel truck directly into my car.

My former M2C.

ETA I bet the new M2 has a "minimum" 91 in the fuel door too.

The sticker likely will say that due to market availability of 93 octane. However, the manual clearly says 93. The car will be "fine" with 91 but will not be running optimally.

I NEVER fill my tank more than 1/2 full in anything but my daily. At 6.3 lbs per gallon, why carry around gas i won't need for a few weeks. I drive spirited, but never far. One of my garage babies only ticked 120 miles last year and 90 the year before that.
Bunch of mentions in these forums about the need for forged wheels due to weight, the need for carbon roof due to weight, hate for the electric seats due to weight. This widdle m2 🐷piggie needs to go on a diet. I am going forged, the carbon roof, the carbon buckets(perhaps upgrading to a lightweight racing seat-driver side only :/), and saving +/- 40 lbs in gas Hell, i even dropped 10lbs myself to bring down the overall weight. I will likely go for an exhaust that saves another 10-15lbs. Bring on the carbon hood replacement!
To each his own though, right?
