Theme or no theme, I like what I like (I just happen to like a lot of things). FOR NOW, this is the car I am hooked on. A little less hooked now than I was 2 months ago, i will admit.
Luckily for me, I have a few fun toys and dont need any of these. I could sell one to make room for the M2(x) whatever model it may be. Or I will just move one up on the lift and keep both for a bit. I don't think depreciation will be a thing for the first year or so.
As for the BMW line-up, i am currently awaiting a build for BG G87 with full carbon pack and some 963ish wheels OR a manual M2CS. Not sure why i would limit myself to one car that doesn't sound fun.
I will NEVER be out of the M2 market! I have been to 3 dealerships this week to see if the HEA was available for an eye test. I still have not seen one in person. I was in Daytona for business but missed the event by one day back in Feb. I have been in love since the 2'er race car I saw back in late 2016/2017.
I never bought the M2C mainly because my mother-in-law has one and I drive it as often as I like.
What do you think of your car? I'm happy you got it already!! Lively back end? I read you have the new wheels on it already. Little jealous!!!
I took a g82 m3 6mt home for a 24 hour test drive. I would have expected/wanted it to be a little more tail happy. Still a great car!

A manual m2cs is very unlikely, if it happens I will be swapping my "base" m2 immediately.

From my brief drive of the G87 on Saturday I got the feeling that it could possibly be that kind of car, but I’d need more time behind the wheel to know for sure. Or I can wait for Chris Harris to answer that question for all of us. In the meantime though, the prospect of ditching the F87 that drives exactly the way I want it to in exchange for a $75k car that may or may not do it for me is a daunting prospect.
Well said... and the G87 COULD absolutely be this car. I have a feeling the "influencers" were not allowed to turn off the traction control. Not one of them even really pushed the car, outside of the straight-out and straight-back road closed by the police. And these were only launches and burnouts. No one (that I noticed) did a large fishtail from a stop sign or took a turn at 30mph and stretched it into a drift.
I am with you on the Chris Harris review, but that man could get sideways in a 1987 diesel ice cream truck. I wanted to hear the "everyday joe reviewers" make mention of super tail happy tendencies, but no one really did.

Sorry, i meant a used 2020/21 m2cs.
I 100% believe the G87M2CS will be Automatic and/or xdrive.

Gotcha, a stock g87 actually is tough compare to a f87's, but I think the g87 has more potential.

I love that it appears (both in here and on multiple other threads) that chris harris is the ultimate benchmark that everyone trusts.

All my experiences wrapped up in one phrase: Buy it, yesterday.

We know it's the last manual from BMW with ICE only power. We know it dynoed at 460whp. This car has all the makings of an instant classic despite what F87 people are saying. Do yourself a favor.

I love the car, but I'm also on the fence. My first BMW, and I've had WAY too many people tell me these cars are nothing but headaches in terms of reliability and quality.

I tend to keep my cars a long time (8 years at least), and the only good friends I've had with BMWs needed (a) transmission/engine replacement ($20K) and (b) unresolved electrical issues that finally led to a lemon buyback.

Plus, we have a steep driveway in Vermont which doesn't lend itself well to RWD.

So I'm trying to convince myself to get the car, get an extended warranty, and put bags of sand in the trunk for winter, but that's all starting to sound a little crazy, even to me. Might wind up with Integra Type S.

Or just don't keep it for that long. Replace it when it's a year out from the warranty running out. Shouldn't stop you from making the most of it between now and then

And who are you to say which forum people are allowed to interact in? I completely get that you're happy with your purchase, but why get so defensive about the car? The only thing that matters is you enjoy the car and not what other people think, regardless of whether they are F87 owners or not.

I will tell you why I'm still on the G87 forums even though I don't have one on order. I've seen the ZB car in person when it was at the PC last year. And no, I don't feel the switch from an F87C is worth it.

However: It's a RWD, I6, 6MT car from BMW M in 202x. Of course I've got an interest in it. I will admit, I was not a fan of the G80 when it came out, but the more I saw them, the more I warmed up to them, even though I don't think they're pretty. When they are modified, they just look completely different. I think this MIGHT be the case for me with the G87. A drop to get rid of the crazy right height, a front lip and rear spoiler might be exactly what the car needs to change my mind. I also happen to think this is one of the worse launch colors I've seen yet, so I'm also curious to see what Individual colors are available. Again, keep in mind colors are completely subjective anyway, if you love ZB, that's great.

At the end of the day, I've got 4 M's spanning 3 decades and some of them were not even universally loved. Not sure about you, but I've been on forums long enough to see this cycle every time a new M launches.

I appreciate your take. This issue is we've tackled this subject countless times over the last six months. It has nothing to do with being defensive, and everything to do with wanting a peaceful forum where we can talk constructively about the vehicle. If offering a criticism, maybe the trolls can talk through an idea of how they got there. You know, in line with the forum guidelines?

Eight year olds can criticize things, adults can offer solutions and ideas. I think the outstanding majority of us would just like the latter.

It's the persistence of certain individuals trolling this forum over periods of time regurgitating the same complaints and nostalgic attitudes about why their car is so superior and this one is a turd. At some point a spade is a spade, right?

You don't see any G87 members trolling other forums to dump on their cars and call ours superior. It's just sad at this point; is the point.

I hope this makes sense. I will try not to come off as defensive, and more guiding discussion in the direction we all hope to achieve. I've called myself out for this a couple times and it's a work in progress, but I also have no problem standing up for what's right. And yes, "right" is rather subjective, but I think you understand.

Agreed. When it comes to CH, I’m just curious to hear his take on the character of the car, and since I know he’ll at least drive it with the nannies turned off. He’s always been passionate about M cars. I’m curious to see whether he thinks this car at its essence hits the mark or not. Although in the end I’ll be making up my own mind.

If that stable drift in the Tomato Red launch video is anything to go by, it should be rather nice

Chris Harris just bought and reviewed a Polestar 1 hybrid. Modern, heavy, complicated, lots of electronics. Granted, he didn’t buy it for the same reasons he bought his M2CS, but his outlook on modern cars seems to be evolving. Given that, I’m now even more eager to see his take on the G87.

Also looking forward to seeing something from Jason Cammisa (and of course SavageGeese).

The Hagerty duo is legit. Plus their production value

This is why I'm here and I've been saying it all along, with the proper mods things may be different.

IMHO the IND F87 looks great (other than the lime green) and I can't wait to see their G87 when done.

I have contemplated giving up my top spot in two G87 waitlists simply because how the tech sector has fared recently and I feel nervous about my company's short-term outlook. I thought it might be prudent to stick with a less expensive car until the tide turns in tech. Then my wife talked me out of it, life is too short for delaying long-time wishes and wants. G87 should also hold its value fairly well (cheapest M model, newly released and very little available supply) so I think the financial risk is relatively low in case I need to downgrade to something more pedestrian. Plus the reviews have cemented my decision to take delivery asap. I was hoping for a more affordable M3 manual and G87 seems to be exactly that car sans the controversial front grill. I am all in at this point, can't wait for my first full M car ever and first manual since my ND Miata six years ago.

My opinion is that the G87 will prove to be quite a hit. I owned and loved the F80, F82, and F87. I started with a the F82 M4, then tried the F87 M2C witch was a phenomenal car. Having switched from my M4 to the M2C, I missed a lot of features I enjoyed about the M4. I loved the laughable fun I could have so easily in the M2C while at the same time missing some of the up-class GT car feel of the M4.

From what I can tell the G87 will solve most of all those shortcomings (for me). Plus with the infinite configurability of the M traction control system I'm certain that I'll be able to dial whatever degree of tail-happy foolishness I desire and dial it back when I want to keep things civil.

I agree with others that the available color options are disappointing but I could still be happy with at least two of the available options. Now if I could only arrive at a decision between the M3CX or the M2. I'm drawn to each. In the meantime I'll continue to enjoy my F80.

I have a feeling there will be plenty of folks that wish they hadn't cancelled their reservations.

I initially was on my dealers list for a m2 at number 4, but I got impatient because I need a car and allocations were coming through to slow for me so I switched to a m4 around the end of February and got a production number a week later. It’s already built and waiting at the port.
