I read here that some folks with Android phones saw the digital key option, so I assumed the BMW App had a bug on Android (BTW BMW told me only the Google Pixel 6 or iPhone can have digital keys, in automatics).

Game is the first I have seen with an iPhone and a manual seeing the option in his app. Maybe I just haven’t paid attention to others’ experience.

I have an Android (Galaxy 22) and an iPhone and the digital key on my i4 works with both. Seems odd it would be different with G87 Autos. Maybe “Genius” misinformation.

So considering I have no tray to put the phone to actually start the car with the digital key, safe bet that it indeed doesn't have the option.

You’d be surprised though! We have people here with automatics that were able to get setup without the wireless charger (it may still have the NFC tray).

Interesting! I won't be able to check when I get home and have both keys handy.

My automatic HEA came with the physical card. Digital key works. I added it to my Apple Wallet on my phone and watch no problem.

This is correct. In the auto, and essentially every other BMW I can think of, you still get the NFC tray without wireless charging. I don't know how BMW failed so hard on digital key with a manual. I understand there's less room, but even if they added the credit card digital key reader that would be better than nothing.

I have a 6MT with an IPhone 13 Pro. The MyBMW app shows “set up digital key”. Has yet to do anything.

It honestly doesn’t matter to me so no biggie. I don’t generally go anywhere without my key anyway. I would hate to be aware from home without key and this thing decided not to work.

1. Digital Key is only compatible with Automatic transmissions. It is not available for MT. Same goes for the G8x M3/M4.

2. You do not need to option the wireless charger for Digital Key. So long as your car has an ZF8 AT there will be a NFC pad (a glyph of a smartphone + wifi symbol) where you can place your phone to start the vehicle.

3. The only possible scenario that your car is an AT but doesn't have Digital Key is if you are part of that non-compliance recall. If BMW has already fixed the issue and an RSU fixes said software issue, it should work.
