Thank you for the data, must say very impressive times for what is the entry level M car. In the event you are like most of us, the G87 remains a very quick street car that can often punch well above its weight division.

As originally stated the G87 remains incredible value for money and more importantly it is not an EV!

Drive it, love it before cars like these are outlawed by EV loving governments.

The Dark Horse and the G87 are less than a second apart yet the DH is on 305 front and 315 rear section Trofeo RS semi slicks.
Throw those on a G87 and it will leave the DH in the dust on tracks.
Also, if we're bringing up Throttle House, I honestly believe they are biased against BMW, so much that I went from watching just about every video that came out to simply ignoring them altogether. They will bring up something negative about BMW in just about every video, even if it doesn't relate to BMWs. I get it, you need comedy and jokes, if that's what your channel has, but it gets old repeating yourself. If i'm being honest, It wouldn't put it past them to sandbag the G87 in their track times.
I think it just proves that you can enjoy the hell out of a G87 driving to Home Depot, a date, carry 3 passengers and luggage, track it or drift it, or really any other scenario.

For the price, especially in 2024, that's hard to do. Also it comes in a stick...mind...blown.

In my mind, this has been the unique selling point of Ms for a while now. If you care about Only One Thing, whatever that one thing is, then you probably don't want an M. There's probably another car that specializes and does it better.

If you want a swiss army knife sports car that does everything reasonably well, there are far fewer options... especially if you want stick.

It is a bit strange due to the size of the US market. 15 years ago I generally bought from online sellers in the US due to a better price and selection, but since then the variety and price of tyres in Canada has generally been better (after I factor-in shipping and duties).

Not sure if it is due to consolidation causing less competition, such as Tire Rack being bought by Discount Tire?

I had a 2016 GT4 and it was a great car. The suspension was great and the transmission was good, but I didn’t like the engine as much. A very narrow power band mixed with tall gearing. I don’t have my M2 yet but what did you find made the 718 more of an event for you? Does the M2 lack compared to the 718 in any particular area(s)?

I never understood the line of discussion taken for the g42 and the g87 at launch. Almost every review is talking about how fat and heavy the cars are and how you can feel the weight in every turn.

But both cars are within a hundred pounds of the e92 m3 they are damn near identical in gross dimensions but are 1-4in wider track.

But let's not talk about the extra 100-150tq

Just seems disingenuous for an automotive reviewer not to have the larger context of the cars in mind. The m3 and m4 are too big. The g87 m2 is the m3. Don't compare the new car to the pseudo 1 series we had before.

Definitely, because the 1M was an one-off, single-year kitbash. People had unrealistic expectations, for sure.

A lot of people forget how HATED the 1M was by so many BMW faithful. (turbocharged? heresy! The N54 isn't a real M engine! kitbashed parts? Not in my M car! And it's so awkward looking! etc etc.)

As the 1M gained critical accaim, the haters faded away. But it was a kitbash, not a viable mass-produced car on the scale BMW wanted. And the 1 series as a whole eventually was cancelled, so the 1M died with it.

Almost every car gains appreciation over time, the G87 will too. Especially if it truly is the last manual option BMW.

I don't understand why no one else has come to this conclusion. They moved the M3 to the M4 then squeezed the 1 series in and it was the same size as the previous gen M3 or before.
It's the same as a lot of people missing the design cues from the E30 M3. Whoever designed rhe M2 was paying homage to it. The M2 is the modern E30 M3.

Thomas literally owned an F87 M2 for a long time, he featured it on their show multiple times, and he raved about it being his favorite car. That alone makes your accusation of bias to the point of intentionally sandbagging lap times pretty wild. Now add that he managed to put the G87 M2 #14 overall out of 45… beating out some serious cars like the Lotus Emira and the C8 Corvette with Z51 package.

He merely criticizes the G87 for added weight (true), disliking the appearance (subjective), and numb steering feel.

Oh it's not wild at all actually. As unfortunate as it is, because it was a really entertaining channel. Thomas bought a OG M2, said he preferred it over the F87C and when the G series cars came out, the channel changed to hate everything G. Guess it was the popular thing to do or maybe he simply wanted to try to do whatever it took to retain values, who the fuck knows? Oh well, not going to waste any more time on that nonsense. You want an honest channel, watch Chris Harris.
Back to topic, hoping the G87CS comes with a carbon trunk, would love to throw that on my car.

It could just be that he's giving his honest opinion about the G series cars. How did you rule that out? He actually got an impressive time with the G87 M2, and you're accusing him of intentionally sandbagging, without evidence.

Either way, I'll check out Chris Harris.

Very nice garage RMB! Always wanted a TTRS, but it never worked out. The M2 does not lack next to the Cayman. The Porsche is something special at the limit. When that flat 6 is screaming behind your head as you confidently fly out of a corner. Those moments do not happen often enough and that is where the M2 fills the void. It can do everything you want it to do. This is my fourth M2 and the best one yet. Also, the M2 gets far more compliments and thumbs-up than the Cayman. If I could only have one, that one would be the G87 M2.

Good call, the Zunsport Grills and Mishimoto are a must! What color is your new G87? I wish your GT4 was in my garage. That car makes some sweet sounds. Wish I lived closer for a spin in the TTRS.....that 5 cyl screamer is a treat. Hope your new M2 arrives soon and in perfect condition.

i'm about to hit the one year mark with my G87. i did skid plate, cooling protection, ceramic tints, 12mm spacers, and picked up some 824ms from an M3 guy. don't really think it needs anything else, personally, besides analog gauges which will never happen. next year ill add some carbon bits and switch up the wheels. otherwise, car is dialed in near perfectly from the factory for my tastes. you will not regret keeping it stock, although there are plenty of wild, awesome builds on this forum. just doesn't fit my use case with the car. good luck!

I agree. The M2 is a homage to the E30.
You only need to put them side by side.

That's one reason I want one; it's got all the E30 M3 "boy racer" cues in a modern package.
