To be fair, we're all talking about Jaguar now. If the car is good, I don't know that any of this matters.

Playing devil's advocate... As someone said on page 1, other than the F-Type, Jaguar hasn't been interesting for a very long time. Any car maker would've discontinued those models years, if not a decade+, ago.

The question then is where to they go from here? Looking at BMW, purest have been complaining they aren't the BMW of old. They've pivoted away from pure driving dynamics that we knew and loved, towards vehicles with fancy electronic gadgetry and avant-garde styling. Remember that tacky talking BMW commercial (if not, see below)? It's a new world, right? Jaguar is following suit.

Many surveys (like THIS ONE) point to the younger generations who grew up in the electronics/computer age seeing cars more like fancy appliances than ultimate driving machines. So I'm guessing this re-branding is the beginning of this pivot for Jaguar, not unlike what BMW has already started doing.

Will it work? Who knows but the status quo isn't the answer and neither is building the Ultimate Driving Machine that used to be BMW's moniker because BMW has already abandoned it and as those who support BMW's new direction have repeatedly said, they must be right because BMW is now selling more cars than ever!

That Jaguar ad is no worse than BMW's talking 7-Series commercial (see below). As the saying goes: "people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stone" and those who favor what BMW has done, shouldn't be critical of what Jag appear to be starting to do.

Agreed. Again I repeat... The minds and leadership of a multi Billion dollar company and brand, know more and the direction they want to go. Eventually we will see the results.

That's where you're wrong, kiddo. The Jaguar ad is objectively orders of magnitude more cringe than the BMW ad. BMW at least showed you cars past and future, and outlined their plans for the future of BMW cars. The Jaguar ad is psychedelic nonsense that doesn't remotely hint at cars or direction of anything other than weirdness for weirdness sake.

The problem is we are all laughing at them. It would be one thing if they were working on a car that had a chance of succeeding based off their previous history and branding and whatnot. But they're launching a car that's going to cost way more than the old ones, aimimng for a client base that sees them as down-market from their normal cars, and don't have anything drawing them in. Maybe if they can pull off the kind of coddling the super rich expect and market it in the right places (hint, not social media) and offer the same materials and design and customization of a rolls or Bentley at a lower prices, maybe they'll have a chance? For the Uber wealthy worried about their car on footprint in their car but not their private jet? I dunno I think they're doomed.

Just a couple posts back you were pretty sure it wasn't even a commercial for jaguar the car brand, but hey some genius in a cubicle at some billion dollar company came up with it so it must be good. You are correct though... we shall see.

So I was surprised by an Ad.

You know what doesn't surprise me?

Progress.

This isnt progress though.

this is pandering to a small demographic that barely, if at all, overlaps with the Jaguar buyer demographic.

We saw it with Budweiser and it was a massive failure that cost them billions. Jaguar doesnt have that kind of brand loyalty or market share to survive, and they dont have any products that people are excited enough for to overlook this garbage.

Even Budweiser… had enough common sense to show the product.

Budweiser has a product. Jaguar doesn't. They have a prototype that was supposedly cancelled per news a few months ago but now it apparently isn't?

Jaguar is trying to generate buzz to hopefully not get shuttered before they can go to market.

In 1989 Infinity's first ad was sans automobile as well, but it wasn't the crazy ass shit jaGUar showed. And Cadillac did the same with the ATS IIRC. But in both, you knew it was a car ad.

Except their sister brand - Land Rover / Range Rover is doing great with their offerings and expanding the products with the Defender suv. My local dealer has more V8 versions of these than any other model!

Great products with rich history always lead the way not idiotic/gimmick marketing and certainly not erasing 100 years of history to focus on a niche segment of the population.
