Samsung/Harman screen collab in a x3 at CES. Note the very cool strip of information across the bottom of the windshield. SmartThings integration.
That uninteresting (IMO) screen slapped onto the dash today is hopefully not long for this world. And how about a Honda that looks like a Lambo! Acura Touring!

Most of the “hate” you see is not that folks don’t believe they should exist. It’s a reaction to the government interfering in a way that is shoving them down people’s throats. The free market is not driving this. This isn’t a natural progression of market forces. Obviously the government has been in the business of regulating cars for a long time, and mostly for the overall good, expanding things the market had already begun demanding. But now they are in the business of forcing stupid stuff on everyone that has no connection to market forces and is based on dubious reasoning at best.

I too was not a fan until we picked up the wife's i4 M50 a couple months ago. It definitely fits right in to our style of driving although I still much prefer my M2 as it's so much more engaging.

Many people always find something to bitch about instead of looking for the good in things.

I use the controller with iDrive 8 in my M2 at times, but I'm mostly using the touch screen and I'm definitely not a techy person. When it comes to 8.5 in my wife's i4 I don't think I've used the controller yet. Pretty much use the touch screen and steering wheel controls. I can see why people do want to hold onto the controller though.

I have zero interest in an electric performance car. I purchased a 330e back in 2022 to dip my toe in the electrified category. It was a nice car & I enjoyed it. I saved a bunch of money on fuel for the 17 months I owned it, but it suffered from the same thing every EV I've driven or ridden in, zero soul. Unless you just get excited about getting from stop light to stop light as quickly as possible, or just want to be a passenger in a vehicle, there is nothing exciting about driving an EV.
Chevy laid an egg with the Corvette ERay, which for a split second they touted as the quickest Corvette ever. Problem is they priced it starting at $105k & essentially nobody asked for an electrified, awd Corvette. I imagine the same to be true with M3/M4 buyers, about 0.01% want an electric version.

Same. I much prefer my M3. But I’m never mad about having to drive the wife’s Cross Turismo when needed. It’s seriously impressive with the handling and overall road feel. Looks pretty damn cool too.

Wimpy 4 banger that barely deserves to be called a BMW. A 330 lacks soul in any form. Pick a different comparison.

I am sure the Next generation M3 will be a bit quicker & everything else that comes with a new model than the current G80.
I will say this, I am glad I have a G80 M3 |

Not even slightly true. I’m probably the biggest inline six snob on this forum, but the fact of the matter is the B48 is a very good motor that puts out the same horsepower and more torque than my fantastic, naturally aspirated 2006 N52 inline six 330i. And the other fact is BMW has been producing four banger 3ers since day one. Not to mention the first M3. You can be an inline six snob all you want, but that doesn’t negate the history of the BMW 3er. The BMW F30 (especially the LCI) 320i is one of the most fun BMWs I’ve ever driven and is absolutely a proper BMW!!!

"Actually, we would never use an i on an M, even though it would be electric. That's not to say that a performance EV with a pure M badge won't happen, though. If we would ever do something like that, it will always be called an M without an i," suggests van Meel, "because that's just the technology, and M is not about technology. It’s about a promise, it’s about motorsports, it’s about emotion. It’s not about the drivetrain." |

There's still going to be an ICE M3. >80% of BMW sales in 2024 were ICE. I don't really get the panic, you'll still be able to have an enthusiast ICE car for most of our lifetimes. Things change over time, we stopped using carburetors, leaded gas, etc and the EV rollout has been much slower than all of those changes. There's clearly some demand for EVs and it's growing every year. Is some of that induced by a tax credit? Sure, but that basically only puts them on par with ICE equivalents some of the time, so people still have to consciously choose the EV. I was never much of an EV lover, maybe even slightly disliked them and had a lot of FUD because I never tried them. But for a DD, I love mine now. If I had space/time for a weekend/track car? Sure I'd go ICE; but that's such a tiny fraction of the general public who use a car to get from point A to point B.

Like it or not, ICEs are going away. I’m not personally convinced that electric is the answer, especially since less homes are being built and the convenience factor is hard to rationalize to the majority of the population who are just trying to get by. That being said, I’m glad I know a young, mechanic who was a BMW Master Tech and will rebuild my manual G80 for decades as I put x00,000s of miles on. Can’t save the manuals, but sure as hell can preserve and reconstruct them! 🙂
