As I suggested before, the "Off Topic" forum may have been a better choice, but we've all discussed in these forums plenty of things that aren't specifically related to BMWs, and at times only obliquely, if at all, related to cars and driving. I know I for one have seen several posts of scantily clad women posted in the forums, and the posters in those threads didn't suffer any such castigation as this OP did. It cannot therefore be too much to expect one at least equitably eschew excoriating the OP with inane comments and hurtful hyperbole about the imagery.

If someone is in shape and looks good (at any age), is it so hard to simply say congrats and be done? Does doing that really make you any less of man/woman? Moreover, does your comparatively less muscled stature (assuming that is so) make you less a man/woman? Does someone's comparatively wealthier financial position make your financial achievements any less commendable? In all those cases I think the answer is, "No."

The guy won an award, though now clearly mistaken, he felt the folks in this group would be adult enough to appreciate it for what it is and share in his excitement and satisfaction, and possibly express a bit of happiness for his achievement, must as they do when somebody shares that they just got this or that car, mod, race win, etc. His comments accompanying the photo make it clear there wasn't more to it than that. Moreover, the OP is 48, so I am sure he's not living under some delusion that we'd all be smitten with his physique, though some surely are. And based on the pic, it's certainly not his genitals that we would notice. So I frankly don't understand all the sour invective about this photo, to say nothing about references to pornography, other than as extreme utterances of inferiority or insecurity.

In closing, let me say, lest one misconstrue my purpose, for it's not to defend the OP that I post, it's to decry the childish, unthinking, disrespectful, churlish, self righteous, arrogant attitude I've seen shared about his post. How does it come that in America now one's stature grows by belittling one's fellow man? It is no wonder this country wanes woefully, reprehensibly, to a wretched eclipse.

Now that is a fair and germane criticism. I too felt duped by the title. And I share your indifference toward his body. Indeed, upon first seeing the post's title, I thought some goofball had either replaced a wrecked car body or completely altered the body style of his/her 3er. So, yes, I was surprised to see a beefcake sort of pic.

And truthfully, had I seen similarly fair minded, impersonal comments as the one you made above, I'd have first thought to concur rather than become incensed by the ad hominem lambasting that dismayed me even more so than the fact of my having fallen prey to such subterfuge.

In any regard, however, I sincerely do commend the OP for his accomplishment, despite the wily word play he used to obtain the accolade. Heck, for all I know he's a marketing executive, in which case he's just using the tricks of the trade....The fact that the guy employed a bit of misdirection does not take away from the staggering difficulty of what he's accomplished and it is indeed noteworthy.
