Well said and I agree. I'm still a little awkward but I'm not a sociopath.

Born and raised silicon valley, I come across men socially awkward and unable to understand why women are not attracted to them. They wear fancy clothes, drive nice cars, and feel if they follow the formula 1-2-3 (like the good engineers they are), there should be an outcome. Education and enlightenment in this area would really help many out.

When I was younger I was socially awkward and spent years making mistakes, building up hatred inside. But instead of giving in, I worked hard to grow and figured out why likeable/popular/charismatic people are the way they are (modesty, decisiveness, hard work, and drive). My Myer-Briggs as a ESFP definitely helped me too along with my parents always teaching me to love and be compassionate, not to hate. It's just sad to see some people can never grow but instead turn down the path of darkness.

RIP to all the victims, it's horrible thinking all the young souls died due to some kid's insecurities about himself. A reminder to all my guys to throw some guidance to awkward men you meet, you never know how a little help can go a long way (and maybe prevent something like such from happening)

You know, I was once awkward too and grew through it as well to become a respected professional. But I definitely went through some very dark and angry times. Fortunately nothing major resulted. Most of those times are long forgotten, and that's definitely a good thing!

For many young men, this is just a part of growing up. Unfortunately we are in an information age where the news of these events it's so instantaneous, it lends an additional degree of notoriety. I only pray that my daughter (9 years old now) doesn't encounter a psychopath like this in her adolescence.

I just read his manifesto. .. http://www.scribd.com/mobile/doc/225...3uH6&width=360

High(low)lights:

Had planned to kill his little brother because he was more socially adjusted and that just wasn't fair.

Phase 1 was to stab his roommates to death the night before and then lure people into his apartment and knock then out with a hammer...and then slit their throats and torture them .

Original date was 4/26...he posted all his videos except for the retribution/final video that week. Cops were notified and came to his apartment (7 of them!) ....talked to him for a few minutes and he proudly talks about how easily they could have stopped it all I'd they'd just come inside and looked around....his guns and writings and plans were all out in the open.

He'd been planning this for close to 2 years.

Intelligent and well educated.

His parents paid for tons if therapy and even hired specialists for socialization who were his age and would hang out with him to try to help him make friends and learn to meet new people etc.

He was also going to murder his step mother.

He never once mentions actually trying to talk to women....just pure hatred for them not taking to him and for depriving him of sex and love.

Totally fucking creepy and this will be very psychiatrists wet dream.

Really chilling.

Really well said. Thank you. Not excusing this guy's heinous acts...but he mentions in his manifesto dozens of times that if just one girl said hello and showed him some kindness and love...none of his fucked up plan would have ever even come into his mind.

A little love and kindness to our fellow humans is a powerful thing. I imagine being a college student in Santa Barbara and being socially retarded has got to be horribly intimidating and just a more harsh, extreme version of high school.

Although I ran with some cool kids in high school...I hated it and all the social hierarchy. Kids can be horrible to each other.

RIP to all involved. Tragic.

It's truly amazing how some think a little guidance would have helped. A little guidance helps a kid get into an Ivy League school. It doesn't help to correct a murderer.

22 y.o. Is an adult, not a kid. Seriously, is there anybody here who scored with each and every woman he desired? Of course not. In a normal mammal, that' simply part of life, nothing to get upset about.

We shouldn't even have a thread here just because he had a e92--he has nothing in common with the rest of us imho...

This guy was a total nutbag... Too bad there was no one with a firearm to blow his brains out when this started instead of it going on so long until the police found him

I love how every news story has to specifically point out that he was shooting from his "Black BMW", if it was a black chevy malibu, not one story would mention the car.

I counted at least 5 instances in this article where the word BMW is used. WTF? I bet if he was driving any other make, they would simply refer to it as his "vehicle".

If you don't think the entitlement issues have anything to do with being handed a new BMW at a young age, you aren't listening close enough

I see no mention of whether this gun was owned legally or not?

Edit: found it.

Astaire told CNN that Rodger never expressed any fascination with guns.
"Guns were never part of the dialogue," he said.
Inside Rodger's car Friday night police found three handguns -- all legally purchased -- and more than 400 rounds of unused ammunition.

Couldn't agree more. And isn't it peculiar how the "mass murder gunmen" are usually liberal gun-haters and not responsible, conservative and licensed gun-owners?

Now the parents of this idiot are wanting to up gun control. Typical liberals it's not their fault they raised a psychopathic killer or their psychopath kid it's the guns fault. Funny thing is he stabbed and killed his roommates then went out shooting people, if someone wants to kill people they will do it doesn't matter what laws theses idiots make...

As I said in the other thread, I graduated from UCSB last quarter. Elliot Rodger shot 2 bullets into my old apartment, shot at people in the 7/11 down the stairs, and killed someone at IV Deli- a place I frequented 2-3x a week at the late evening period he did the shooting. Needless to say, I have been very upset over what happened. I am thankful none of my friends were hurt, but I feel awful for those poor souls who were at the wrong place, at the wrong time. It could *EASILY* have been my buds or myself being shot, which makes this a very sobering event.

For better or for worse, and despite the flack i'd get... I do feel bad for Elliot Rodger. I looked through all his videos on youtube, and I just saw a young, lonely guy who felt he had no place in the world. Now, I cannot condone the absolutely vile and evil actions he took... but this guy really just needed some friends. I wish I could have met him and given him a beer, talked about cars. Considering he had a 328i sport pkg coupe, I would have happily chatted him about it if I saw him getting out of his car. UCSB does have a lot of d-bags, and unfortunately he probably met too many of those and assumed it of the whole community. This guy obviously had a lot of demons inside that somehow convinced him to turn his anguish into violence, and I just wish I could have had an opportunity to meet him and try to let him know someone would be his friend. Lord knows how lonely I was when my HS girlfriend broke up with me and I didn't develop a good network of friends yet by my 2nd year. While I never considered anything remotely as crazy as Elliot, I was very lonely and sad for awhile- im very thankful for the great people who work at UCSB's counseling.

The moral of this story that I take, is that you should try to be nice to people. I have the feeling this guy was an introvert and very shy, and he simply had bad luck with the type of people he tried to mingle and socialize with during these parties. My thoughts and heart go out to everyone who was affected by this tragedy.

Exactly. Gun control doesn't get to the root or source of these people's issues. Control guns and they'll use knives. Control knives and they'll use their hands. My point is their issues will be there and they'll act out on them somehow unless we can learn how to identify and then address the problems before they escalate.
This is truly tragic and the families of the victims will be in my thoughts and prayers

That guy really reminds me of the creep who broke into my home twice, and did some other fucked up stuff too. It's a great feeling when the word no has no value, and reasoning doesn't cut it.

Would these nut jobs have done what they did if they knew there would be absolutely no media coverage? Dunno.
