The possible problem with that is in the event of a cooling issue under the factory warranty, a warranty claim could potentially be denied.

I can't see that having any practical purpose, so it's probably a design elements, so that shiny, sliver radiator is not as conspicuous, due to its open-grille style.

Those gapping holes are begging for some sort of mesh grill for intercooler protection. Wonder if installing one if/when available aftermarket if it will void some warranty.

My CSL (very open) already has dings in the rad/cooler with only 350km on the odo, manufacturers don't seem to care for longevity anymore, It will be ugly after 2-3 track days...

I'm sure BMW doesn't really care since they are disclaimed from any potential road hazard damage - that's more of a you problem, after you take delivery of the vehicle and operate it on the public roads..

And manufacturers warranty are tricky, any aftermarket shield/mesh which be construed as a hinderance of air flow can potentially cause a denial of any coverage.

All it takes is one service visit with something like this affixed and a tech notes it on a R.O. It will then be permanently entered internally and associated with the VIN.

I do not think anyone wants to remove something like this every time they go in for service. Typically they have to be R&I from the backside which requires R&I of the plastic under trays.

If the unfortunate does happen and your radiator or oil pan gets punctured, more than likely there will be some collateral damage also, so an insurance claim would be warranted.

I would obviously never do such thing as bending the truth with my insurance company and such because I'm trying to get into heaven 😉 but I heard that if you let your insurance company know that the damage was cause by "airborne objects" striking your vehicle, as oppose with your vehicle colliding with road debris, it's considered a "comprehensive" claim as oppose to a "collision" incident. Huge rating difference, since comprehensive claims can't be surcharged and is classified as a "not at fault" incident. #TheMoreYouKnow

I get that but in the insurance world, exactly how you state your claim can make or break you. There is an important distinction in if debris few off a truck, then you hit it or didn't try to avoid it, they could classify this incident as an at fault Collision claim.

Geico has "mechanical breakdown" insurance which would cover this. I'm sure others offer something similar.
