One Cajun restaurant we go to in Santa Barbara they specialize in the chili martinis. They soak them overnight. BIL loves them but I just can't do them. I stick with The Dean Martini

This weekend I killed my bottle of gentleman jack and moved on to kill my bottle of twenty grand (a coworker of mine pointed me to this about a week or so ago.) Very tasty. :]

Mike now makes a HARDer lemonade. I picked one up last night with the intention of making it even harder by Lynchburg-ing it. But after a few sips, I realized that wasn't necessary. Then, my son asks if we are going to the gym tonight, so I poured half a tall can out and burned it all off.

My haul from the superstore (Binny's) in Champaign. The 1.75L of Gentleman Jack was $49.99, which isn't bad considering the 750ml at my local packy is $36.

That's my all time favorite cocktail. So either you did not make it right or you are a pussy. Sorry, a martini made right with Tanqueray, Bombay or any decent gin is pure bliss.

LOL - calling somebody a pussy for NOT liking a Martini runs counter to the demographic up here in Rock-Chewer Land.
I can relate to your feeling that way though; I get the same way about single malts - sublime to me, but most people can't stand 'em. And it always struck me as odd that despite my English/Scottish ancestry, I never could appreciate Gin. |

I don't see the correlation between being a "pussy" and thinking something tastes like shit. Alcoholic drinks should be pleasing to drink, but Martini's taste like you are drinking an evergreen tree that's been soaking in rubbing alcohol for 3 months. Not appetizing to me at all. If you like the taste, good for you, I guess? However, if you would like to give some advice on how to make them so they taste good, I am all ears. Pretty hard to mess up though, it's two ingredients.

The real key to getting it right has to do with temperature--warm gin or martini tastes like shit. So, the Gin must be "bruised" or shaken vigorously with an adequate amount of ice and strained well into the glass. If you see little ice crystals floating on your martini you have done well. The Vermouth cuts the gin and the amount you use is preference--I use very little and can get by without as well. Essentially it is a pure alcohol drink that is diluted by the ice--if you don't like, say Gin and tonic maybe gin is not your thing. And if you prefer things like Pina Coladas, Vodka cranberrys, Manhattens or Mai Tais then Martinis made perfect might still not be your thing. They are a bitter and strong drink where the Juniper of a quality gin is the star flavor.

I do not always drink vodka but when I do it's usually a martini straight up with 3 bleu cheese olives. Yum. Or a nice hearty Bloody Mary.

Thought I would surprise my pop-in-law with some Jameson 12 when he busted this out:
