Because Esteban likes his originals. And I agree. Her voice was spectacular.

So when my dad played or heard this Kinks song on the radio back in the early 70s (a song he liked, as most rock 'n roll songs), I had no clue what the song/lyrics was about. And so my beloved father - who was proficient in English and knew the lyrics - sung the chorus for me as a toddler as "Lola -- Two beers and a Cola !", as if it were an order for a waitress Lola in a bar. And so it happened that we all sang along very loud 'our' chorus in the car whilst driving: "lalala" rather quietly during the verses + the alternative 'drinks chorus' loud. Guess who was grinning behind the wheel...

Fast forward to today: my dad is gone since years and my English has improved, but when I hear that song, such as in Esteban's comment, I still start singing along loud the childhood days chorus: "Lola -- Two beers and a Cola !".

Or that time he asked to sit still for a couple of minutes on the couch in the living room to "listen to a nice song": "Hush-hush, imagine for a moment that you're very-very tiny and sitting on the back of a big bird flying across the shore". And then put the turntable needle on a record and cranked up the volume to play this song pretty loud till its final note inside the living room (my mum was gone getting groceries, so couldn't complain about the decibels, LOL):

Also this one I could hear a couple of times on a Saturday morning in the late 70s suddenly blasting loud from the hi-fi inside the living room. And then I thought from inside my bedroom: "Yup, mum's gone shopping": Hard-coded fond memories.

That's a really evocative memory. Thanks for sharing with us, Artemis. Great tune, have not heard it before. Title reminds me of the first line of this, but the whole song is good:

[PINK FLOYD - POMPEII SESSIONS]
Ah, the illustrious Pink Floyd Pompeii sessions. I've visited that historic place already (but not for a concert). Gilmour decades later (2016) at Pompeii (without Roger Waters of course, because of their bitter feud). Pour yourself a beer and enjoy his live solo from 04:35 onwards in the video below:

Have listened to this great song over and over. My choice of drink, BTW, is a red zinfandel. Have been a Pink Floyd fan since Dark Side of the Moon came out in 1973. I was 18 years old, and bought myself a used copy for... I don't remember how much, but it was under $2.00.

Well, I'm not the world's most masculine man
But I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man
And so is Lola
La-la-la-la Lola
La-la-la-la Lola

C-O-L-A, Cola

Love that song!

My favorite Kinks song!

Then I got a little treat for you, Esteban. Early 80s. Trevor Horn is producing the brilliant Frankie Goes to Hollywood album "Welcome To The Pleasuredome". He asks Steve Lipson to compose a track inspired by the Pink Floyd sound + added some racy sounds of a 'damsel in distress' (LOL) on the shorter album version. The original long version is something pretty lush with guitars howling for almost 11 minutes on end in a Pink Floyd fashion. Pink Floyd are inimitable, but this FGTH track is a nice tribute. You will love the guitars. Here is that relaxing 11-minute version:

Name-dropping FGTH: different music style - very 80s pop featuring damn cool synthesizer sound scapes: this 12 minute remix version of "Welcome To The Pleasuredome" by FGTH. Its surrounding stereo sound effects are aural bliss. Trivia: the long intriguing introduction speech is pulled straight from "The Birth Of Tragedy" of 1872 by the German provocateur philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. In a pop record more than a century later !
