S58 has a more classic M powerband, with the thrills coming at the top end near redline a la E46 and E92.

Based on my nearly 20k miles in a G82 6MT, G87 6MT owners will not be disappointed. I vividly remember when I got back my G82 after break-in service; I was quite pleased with the experience of full throttle redline shifts 1-4.

BTW, looks like he omitted his backtracked comments on the ZF8 car (where he finally took the car to redline and was impressed). Why?

I shifted at 3k all day and it was still fast. Honestly people need to get off their high horses. This car is more than enough for 95% of drivers.

That's a fact. I won't start a food fight here by saying that I can't tell the difference in sound between the M2C's S55 and the S58 in the new M2, that might get ugly.

"But but but why its not a 'track' car" lol

I have zero idea what 'standard' some 'reviewers' live to or expect the 'motoring' public to have as a group. I simply want a picture, a feel of the car without much else.
Time over time again - it might be better than the last M2(there was only 1 series of it), it might be better than a space shuttle, it might work taking the kids to sports but then again they might be disappointed its not a 'track car'.

My wife has the OG LCI and I have the Comp (both with Dinan set up) and hers does sound far more refined.

Mine is simply better looking and faster...

I have an OG LCI 6MT with M Performance exhaust and stage 2 tune, and had a Comp DCT at the same time. Traded in the Comp and kept the OG. I find myself never listening to music in the car and driving with the windows down any time I can.

Yup, the LCI has that effect, sublime sound.

Hell I drive with the windows down on dry days in the middle of winter.

I live in Canada...

Found this gem of an interview. I would love to hear who he thinks the target market is for the M2 design.

Yes because if there’s one thing we know about TH, it’s that they’re definitely struggling for views 🙄🙄🙄

I don’t know why you’re in denial about the new M2 being controversial. The new styling is a step down from the F87 and it’s very heavy.

If your enjoyment of the car depends on gushingly positive reviews no matter what, just watch Joe Achilles lol

TH have never been shy about pointing out issues with cars. That’s kind of part of the job of being a reviewer.

If anyone doubts it, check out their XM review they posted today. 😳 I’ll spare this thread the link. If you’d like to comment on that, we have a very lively thread going over on the Doug review on the XM (see front page). Not as lively as this thread though, this is epic.

F87 Competition real weight was about 1650kg, so was not a lightweight car either and significant smaller. It was on the same weight with F82 from that time...but then it was not a problem.
F87 has significantly more interior room despite being smaller though making it a more practical road car.

This funny thing, BMW is never going to make the M2 just as good as there toppers M3/M4. BMW purposely did not use lightweight, aluminum fenders hood, doors, and trunk like they do in the M3 and M4. My 2020 DCT F87 vs my 2020 F82 M4 DCT Comp. My M4 all day long feels lighter, faster. My doors trunk hood everything on that car just feels so much lighter versus the M2. It would be too easy for Bmw to build the M2 exactly like the M4, a smaller version that would increase the price meaning there would be no price difference, and the DTuning of the engine is real. My M4 power band just keeps climbing and then it over revs in second gear where M2 F87 drops off after 5000 RPM.

The fact that the G87 M2 does not come with forge wheels and it’s 3800 pounds should tell you something.

You probably havent driven the F87 M2 CS then , thats when BMW topped the M2. I wouldnt say it was a mistake tho . They needed to make the M2 even better , to create a legend - in order for the generations to come to even outsell it. The M2 name is so strong , that even from the first generation , became the best selling M car of all time. What could go wrong with the second gen ? Yes a bit of cost cutting here and there , so what? Its still the M car to get if you re looking to a traditional driving experience . The M3 died for me 17 yrs ago , with the E46 M3 final year. The character of the car changed since , and im not saying the e92 and later generations are not good , its just different.

Actually they did in ally few panels , even on the G42 . Take a magnet and find out yourself .

The weight increase it´s not caused from cast wheels or some tiny details , electronic hardware and wiring , size , add parts to improve stiffness and the crash quality are the main ....

Why can Toyota make a supra manual lightweight 1415kg then. That is also a BMW underneath?
