Just put the M2 and Supra side by side and your questions are answered.

I like how he started pulling out the mathematical formulas. power to weight ratio's and all... Crazy. If the new car beats the old car around any given track what is your point???

Must be some sort of special model ; cause supra GR 3.0 Lightweight are , 1495 to 1570kg ( to be accurate , my Supra gr3.0 with half tank was near 1595 kg.... and my Z4m40i 1630 kg)
I start to wonder if most of the members here have the minimal idea about automotive in the last 5 years...

Which is why Shite-Tube is now useless. OMG the car has M4 running gear and a new idrive with alot of 2 series interior and its got M4 brakes etc etc.

What pray tell is YouTube and its narcissistic trash telling us we dont know. Oh wait.........their sad opinions of how it drives and their useless theories on the universe and how only they know the truth lol.

See it, sit in it, test it and figure it out if it fits for you or not. The forum has M2 owners now. Sources of merit more than anything on Crap-tube.

i would think that that someone who actually owns the car is a bit biased. especially if this something they have been pining over for months and checking the tracking info every day.

of course everyone here will tell you the g87 is the best bmw in the last 10 years. ask this question on the f80, g80, or f87 board and you'll get a different response.

thats why i prefer reviewers who have driven everything in the segment and have no ties to the car.

Very old video, been discussed at length already. But I guess we are just trying to hit 100 pages lol

The point of that video is - it is still a 2 series, so all the design misses still apply. BMW had a great chance to fix it with the M model, but they did not , when M240 looks better than m2 - it s is sad.
How come concepts and other design sketches are so good? who is approving it at BMW they must be looking at those.

Ha ha, what an unrealistic design from a production perspective! No tyres, very little cooling inlet area such that it would overheat, mirrors that wouldn't come close to meeting regulations.

Styling is such a pesronal thing, I found the F22/F87 quite pleasant to look at but otherwise an anonymous design (having owned an F22 M240I), but anodyne overall. I wouldn't call the G87 pretty, but it is definitely more distinctive and aggressively styled, much like the Z3M clown shoe and Z4M were.

Agree to disagree on the m240i looking better than the M2. And that concept isn't bad but I can't say I like it better than the G87, to each their own though.

Regardless a year+ old video on the design of a different model has no place in an, already very derailed, review thread.

That's, like, your opinion, man.

First off, M did change whatever they could styling-wise, they massively changed the front/back and also the side of the M2, it looks really different than a M240i (whether it looks better or worse is everyone's own opinion).

First you (rightly) say it's still a 2 series, and then you demand some coach-build like the 3.0 CSL or something? Even that one has the M4 body-in-white, and that is what M has to deal with.

If you want bespoke head/tail-lights and a radical different body design, we're not talking 60k anymore, it'd be at least triple that I guess.

I kinda agree M could've gone a bit further, but for the price point they wanted to hit, I guess all they could do (in order to still make their regular share of profit, whatever that is) is take the 2er body, modify the front/rear bumpers, widen it to M4 dimension and stick the M4 undercarriage into it.

There's hope some special editions further down the road will make the M2 more special, but demanding something like those concept renders (artist's impressions?) is absolutely delusional.

very few cars meet the concept sketch. because engineers and bean counters will get their way. the supra could have looked like the FT1... but they needed to use the z4 chassis so that design would not work. The M2 is constrained by the regular 2 series... and most people want the last gen to be bigger and quieter than the last one. they have to share a chassis with the m4 to keep costs down.

the only concept that pulled it off recently was the LC500. because there is no 'lower trim' that they have to compromise for.

Bmw problem is making every new model bigger.

Put an E30 M3 next to a new M3 and you have the answer why it is so heavy. Even an M2 is bigger then an old e30 M3.

Bigger means everything will be bigger and thus heavier. From wheels/tires to brakes, interior parts, body panels etc.

I don’t get it.

You can buy an M8, M6, M5, M4, M3, M2

You have all sizes at your disposal. Why make an M2 as big as an older 3 or 5 series. If i wanted a bigger car i would buy an M4 or an even bigger m5.

I am 1 meter 89 and fit in an e30 M3 so no problem there.

Safety crash a motorcycle and tell me how it goes!

If we want to build cars which gives us safety we get military tanks. If we want cars which brings more fun in driving we need lighter cars. If that’s compromises safety so be it. If i drive my motorcycle what kind of safety do i have?
