I knew you weren't supposed to laminate a ss card but never knew why. So I looked it up. Security features in the card are interfered with when a laminated layer is applied. Applies mainly to cards issued prior 1983. Some earlier cards may or may not have security features. In any case it is not illegal to laminate the card.

I still have the roster sheets for those of us who reported for duty on that
fateful day on August 1st, 1967. Next to each of the 50+ names is our new
Army service number and social security number. As I mentioned, I still
have it.

Virginia also, until sometime in the 1980's (if I remember correctly).

Sometime around 1974, the Navy did away with service numbers and went to SSNs. Some officer probably got a medal for coming up with that brilliant idea. Thirty (?) years later, his nephew, another senior officer, probably got a medal for coming up with the idea of encrypting the numbers.

Were I captured today, I would give only name and rank, since I don't know my service number...

Do Army dog tags still have your SSN on them?

I still know mine, useless as it is. Still have my dog tags, too. Years ago,
I hammered out the SS numbers with a drift punch.

1959 Frigidaire Custom Imperial. It's amazing how some of those vintage appliances are still in use today.

We have vintage appliances at the family cabin that still run perfectly. We keep waiting for one to break so we can have an excuse to update the kitchen, but we've been waiting for years. In the meantime, the kitchen is early quaint.

It's when the number of people younger than you starts to decrease that you have to be worried.

I have been waking up to blurry vision and use eye drops to clear my eyes in the morning and lately it hasn't helped. My eyes are staying blurry most of the day. I don't think I can drive like this. Had cataract surgery on both eyes years ago and also had the YAG laser procedure after the cataract lenses got blurry, which cleared them up, so it's not that. Have been increasing the size of text on my computer so I can see, which helps a bit. Made and appointment with my optometrist for next week. We'll see what he says. Maybe just a sign of aging... but it has come on kind of quickly.

Hopefully it's minor and can be fixed/corrected.

Was thinking maybe age-related macular degeneration (AMD). I think I remember Llarry talking about having this problem.

Will probably get a referral to see an ophthalmologist. Had a really good one but changed insurance to get a great cardiologist. Why can't all the good doctors be in the same network?

I was thinking MD, but didn't want to go there. No fun dealing with that.
