I would recommend a manual drivers course/training session before jumping behind the wheel.

It's been a long time since I've driven a stick myself and find this very valuable. I do not want to make any rookie mistakes in a high powered car or even money shift and grenade my new car.

Being able to rip around a slow POS with a stick makes a big difference to perfect some techniques would be a worthwhile investment of a couple hundred bucks.

When I got my first MT car (2003 GTI 1.8T), it had been 10 years since my first driving lessons w/ a MT (16 years old). It came back very quickly just like riding a bike.

Plus with modern tech of auto start after stalling, hill assist and auto rev match, it’s about as easy as it’s going to get driving a manual.

Take your time. If you want the faster transmission, you should go AT.

The best way to avoid it is to get into the habit of not gripping the gear stick, but palming it instead. Using an open palm to the right of the stick for 1st and 2nd gear, inline with the stick for 3rd and 4th gear and to the left of the stick for 5th and 6th gear. Using that technique and the fact that the lever spring returns it to the 3-4 plane should avoid selection of the wrong gear.

Exactly, gentle pressure towards you when 1st-2nd, no lateral pressure for 3rd-4th, and gentle pressure away from you for 5th-6th. Don't rush. When going from 2nd to 3rd just push the lever gently up, let it go middle on its own and up w/o lateral pressure. Apply same principle for all other shifts. Enjoy every shift and no need to slam.

For me, it’s all feel. Learned to drive on a 5-speed. Been driving manny for over 30 years. But I agree with all the advice above. Don’t rush the shift. Especially if manual is new to you. Give it time. If you’re no good at it and pull off the holy money shift, leave it on the side of the road and go buy an automatic 🫣

They don’t know shit about cars and trying to bully people into believing these cars are super limited and no one can get one. These sales guys can bury themselves. No one is paying 20k over.

I apologize if this topic has been covered. Does anyone know if you can order individual colors for the new M2? I love imola...had it on my last two M5 w/manuals. This maybe the last manual. Thanks

Thank you for responding. Then I will wait. The blue based Imola Red is so dark with none of the orange hues of the other red colors. Imola or nothing.

You may very well be waiting for something that never comes to fruition.

I am not a student of BMW history, but has BMW ever not offered Individual colors on a line of cars? I know they don't offer all the colors to all lines (tried very hard to get X5M in Imola..non starter). But have they just flat out not offered in modern times? There are other amazing colors I like besides Imola, but they aren't presently the colors offered? Sorry educating me

Per BMW NA it is not coming anytime soon for vehicles produced at SLP (Mexico).

Ouch. Find a HEA at another dealer and keep your place in line. You'll get one eventually. I bet half of those in front of you will drop out.

I feel like the manual M4 (G82) is a very easy manual to drive and very forgiving. I'm guessing the G87 will be the same. You can easily pull out by slowly letting off the clutch with no throttle at all. I would feel comfortable teaching a responsible driver how to drive manual on this car.
