Jalopnik Review

"More than anything, the M2 is a reminder that BMW cares about building exciting sports cars even as its portfolio expands to include new kinds of M products. The M2 might be a larger, more complex, slightly uglier version of the coupe that came before, but it’s every bit as satisfying. I’d totally have one over an M4."

So bro - what do you think about the G87 reviews 😀
Oh very fair, lol.

Hey I'm in a brand new to me f87 so I've got zero skin in the game. I was really interested in the reviews only out of curiosity to see what bmw did with the new gen. It's about what I expected to be honest.

The take I have is that I'm happy with my car and most other f87 owners seem to be as well. If the g87 owners are happy with theirs then I'm ecstatic because everyone gets what they want. A car brand doesn't necessarily have to remain static.

Serious question here - how many people actually track their cars?

Because if you don’t, then what’s the appeal to paying extra for all the performance you won’t use?

Extra performance over what?

how much performance one can use on the street is different for everyone. just because person A won't or can't access the performance doesn't mean person B can't. Not saying its right but it is what it is. People build 1000hp monsters just to street race

I think it comes down to tires out back. Wait until guys have 3-4K miles on them and they’re turning the traction down to 3.

These WILL be fun. Just not when they have the impressive grip of a new set of mps4s*.

I didn’t say you weren’t, I asked what is all that extra performance good for if you just drive on the street.
What do these reviews matter if you’re at best doing a few 0-60 runs at the stoplight? Literally not one person answered that they track the car.

For most performance cars and big trucks, it's all about feeding the ego. Even the M240i offers more performance than really needed on the street, but you can't have as big of an ego while driving it as you can in a M car. It's not much different than the people driving Lambo, Ferrari, and other exotics on the street. The performance potential of the car is being wasted but the attention and validation the vehicle brings the driver justifies the purchase.

I'd drive my cars in a void with zero attention, I actually prefer for nobody to be around, this point is not applicable to all.

I wasn’t going to say it, but I agree. That’s why I find all these reviews pointless because if you drive it at 5/10s on the street, they all “feel” about the same. Some quicker than others, some less body roll and more planted feeling - but that’s about the most any of these guys will realistically push it. So at this point, what does it matter?

Why do you drive a 235 instead of a 228? Its the exact same logic.

Unfortunately there is no logic on either of the "anti-modders" train of thought. By their logic, the majority of cars are purchased for ego only. I guess a moped or even a skateboard will get you from point a to point b.

This is dumb. Mustang would not have made a 700hp road car if this made any sense. This kind of thinking is arbitrary. Based on this reasoning there would be no performance cars at all. Guys please. Holy!

Here we go again. The difference between regular BMWs and M cars is more than just power. While I cannot speak of M-lite versions, I can attest there was a lot of difference between my E46 330xi and my E46 M3 ( I owned both at the same time). It looked similar but felt completely different for chassis dynamic, engine tuning, suspension, braking, etc.

If you cannot tell the difference, I envy you. I wish it was the same for me as it would be easier to content myself w/o the extra money spent.
