Well I couldn't wait any longer and I called Genius. They told me the same thing - that the last update they see is that it was on way to the port as of September 28th I asked if it's possible they won't get an update till the ship gets to the US. She said it's possible but typically they know when the car gets on the ship. I don't know man. Maybe somehow it'll update later this week after it leaves Altamira. But I have no idea.

Yeah it would be insane if no one in this group is on that ship. Let's wait and see. I won't give up hope yet.

Long story short, BMWGenius knew 3 days after the ship set sail, and the tracker app knew 4 days later. (And people called on days 0, 1, and 2 and were told their car wasn't on the ship, which later turned out false). However, once people start getting their status changed on the tracker app after Altamira, if your status doesn't update and BMWGenius doesn't know you're on a ship, then you're probably not. |

I think the status updates for the US "Genius" and the US CAs when the cars are officially owned by BMW North America, with a once a day update.
The car ownership is with BMW Groupe Mexico during production. Then it gets released to distribution (which I think it is BMW AG). Then the ownership goes to BMW North America after shipping. So it is a black hole for the US CAs and US Genius until it is in transit to BMW North America, and their systems fully update. (any way, some speculation above, but I think this is roughly how it goes)

10:30pm EST tonight. My guess is that it will be there for 2 days and then ship out on Nov 9, and then the Brunswick schedule would be adjusted to Nov 13 or so. But I'm surprised there haven't been any Brunswick schedule changes yet, so who knows.
On a side note, I called BMWGenius to ask for updates, and they said no updates, other than the expected wait timeframe was extended to 4-6 weeks for a ship from the time you're in RFT. That's consistent with what others have said here, but figured I'd provide another data point. |

My CA told me just stop calling Genius lol. I've only called a handful of times and you can get wildly different information depending on who you speak to.

You would think BMW could at least track the cars using the built-in GPS.

I’m pretty sure you would have people going to the warehouse and try and acquire their cars which would cause more trouble than good unfortunately

GPS works by calculating the time difference of a received signal from multiple (at least 3 to triangulate, but generally MANY more) to determine where they are and putting yourself on a "map" If they wanted to do this, they'd have to send that calculated location to some system to put it on a map (which is what the vessels are doing for themselves)

It is all coming. I think a decade or two from now it will be easy to track a large object like a car as it moves through public cameras and the built-in cameras and location trackers transmits updates. Then this forum will be like...."my K87 M2 jut took exit 17 of I95 on the transporter truck".

Some additional information about GPS:
GPS also wouldn't work on the ships as unless they are on the top with an open view of the sky, the signal would not get to the GPS unit for processing (example, why you lose GPS when going in a tunnel for example) Also where these ships generally travel at sea there won't be any sort of cellular signal so even if the car has built in cellular (hotspot or otherwise) it won't do any good in getting that info back to whoever
