Because a piggyback works by adding an offset….Its my understanding that RaceChip works the same way a jb4 works which is adding a set amount of boost over what the stock ecu mapping is calling for. So in theory you would still get the 40 ft lbs and 20 hp as well as the increased torque at lower rpm . If so then 200 dollars is cheap for such a gain in addition to what the race chip is providing.

Thought the dudes from racechip chimed in saying the current racechip won't work with the 2025 spec'd engine?

That’s not the “dudes from racechip” it’s some lady that works in customer service giving a generic response…kinda like this one they gave me about how much performance each map changes which would mean at map 7 your getting +130hp. Obviously that’s wrong.

Timothy,

Thank you for contacting the RaceChip US Customer Service.

The values we published represent the performance increase that we were able to achieve with the test vehicle for development. This value depends to mapping 7

The RaceChip has different tuning mappings, which are generally different tuning characteristics (switch-on and switch-off times/load range; level of performance increase; etc.). As the mapping increases, higher performance is generated.

Mapping 0 = series status
Mapping 1 = approx. 5%
Mapping 2 = approx. 10%
Mapping 3 = approx. 15%
Mapping 4 = approx. 20%
Mapping 5 = basic setting with approx. 25%
Mapping 6 = approx. 27%
Mapping 7 =max. Power approx. 30%

Yeah, even their web page says the chip is +88 HP - so it seems everything in her reply above +20% is a bit of hype.

Makes you wonder why Racechip isn't having someone with the technical knowledge replying to user questions.

I want to do the 2025 flash and get the tuner, but I need to be sure it all works together and does so safely.

I had kubax86 code in the '25 map and CSL steering/diff settings today. Painless process!

I haven't had enough time behind the wheel to say I feel a big difference in the HP. My car is MT, so I don't expect the extra grunt around ~2k rpm. However, I DO feel a difference in the steering. Feels great and well worth the $, IMO.

Does anyone know if this 25 upgrade will pass smog in California on a 24 model? My understanding is that at the time of the smog test when plugged into the car it checks the version of software you are running. (I’m not an expert here). This is why you have to reload the stock software back in if you have been tuned to pass smog. It’s not only a tail pipe sniffer test but also software.
Thanks. Dave

Thats a good point. However, the good news is we won't have to smog these cars until the 7th year. Probably upon sale you will have to revert pack to pre LCI software. The good news is you will probably have the tune waiting on your phone as an OTA update.

So I reached out to Racechip & asked about these numbers and the deal with the 2025 flash/engine & their tuner. I also mentioned that a RC rep sent some info that is now posted in the forum that sort of doesn't jive with the specs on the website and could we get someone who "really knows" to chime in. Pic of his response is below.

Note that there is another thread, a member posted he did the flash and has the Racechip and all seems well with the set up. So whether or not you want to use the Racechip plus the 2025 flash over the advice of Racechip is totally up to the individual.

I think I'll wait for a 2025 specific tuner & then do both.

I don’t see the response. Did they say anything about the performance numbers?

Yes, I did the flash today for one of the fellow member. It works just fine with racechip and overall performance is increased.

Some reason the image didn't upload. I added it. Yep, they addressed the numbers.

It won't throw tuning detection or isn't risky.
This is actually the same as flashing CS/GTS gearbox, just in this case it's a DME flashing with newer calibration data. Simple as that.
We offer it as well - if someone is interested just PM me for that.
I disagree with the part of it not being risky. Whenever you flash engine or transmission the flash counter goes up.

You can return to stock before a visit but you will now have 2+ flash counters recorded. Also, if you flash date (change the flash date) this will also get recorded; showing a flash was done outside the dealer.

Couple tricks to minimize detection; you can save an update (do not perform the update in the car) and apply the update right before your visit this should erase the flash and the flash counter/date will be recorded as legit with HQ.

This is much less detectable with a transmission flash as power isn’t being increased but in the case of the engine when you increase power the first time the user reaches that max power the torque levels are forever recorded in the FATSA data.

I have seen people get flagged going in with GTS/CS/CSL transmission flashes all the time, I saw someone get flagged for changing their vehicle adding 6NS (this is why I always say never change VO changes.) In 2016-2018 the factory ran a campaign looking for f8x’s flashed with GTS DCT & would flag the cars if they hadn’t been flashed back to stock on regular service visits.

Now, the reason most people don’t have problems is because a failure hasn’t happened; if you blow a motor best believe they will be looking at all that data before approving a 40K+ motor and they will most likely reject it, they might even think the car is tuned. Regular service visits (thousands of cars go in a day) lead to no reason for investigation and this leads people to think that such flashes are undetectable.

I try to be transparent and believe me I have lost customers because of it. I however rather the customer know all the risks prior to proceeding. The question always arises.

Again, I do not agree with “isn’t risky.” It might be low risk but the risk is still present. Specially at certain dealers in large metropolitan areas like New York, California and such who have a high rate of lemons/modification cars.

I am not a vendor here as of now. Unfortunately, I can not advertise my services or contact you guys. A lot of aggressive vendors and bad mouth people caused me to leave. At the time I was dealing with health issues and didn’t have the energy to argue/fight with people and I also became short tempered. I might rejoin. Jason (the owner of Bimmerpost) was always great to me; always enjoyed chatting with him and having lunch with him.

Good luck guys!
