Not gonna lie, the missing temperature controls are one of two things I truly don't like about iDrive. It's about the only thing I can't do with the dial.
(The only other thing I hate is that I can't bind Sport Mode to an M button.) |

Nope, is an option in the iDrive screen, at least is only one tap from the default or so. There’s still Max defrost and rear defrost buttons though |

I have a theory that part of the debacle is that automakers are probably patenting their hardware + related gesture controls. So “volume knob that spins to adjust volume, tilts left/right to go forward or back, and depresses to turn on or off” is probably a patent by VAG. Just like how they use those little button post things to secure their floor mats when BMW uses some circle of velcro that seems subpar lol Honestly after typing that out, I think that is exactly it. These MFers went “fine we’ll just use software designs so we don’t have to worry about hardware patent infringement, then if somebody complains about us copying software UX, we push a remote update”. Though if that were fully true why did VW decide to do all those terrible touch buttons for both HVAC and their entire steering wheel. The 8Y Midcycle RS3 refresh even has them now. Ooof. Working in tech, I am getting the sense that projects are actually becoming too complex for any human to be able to properly manage without changes to the culture of process management itself lol Last edited by ajchoi; 08-25-2024 at 02:35 PM.. |

Why are we even comparing the RS3 and the M2? These are completely different categories of vehicle with different philosophies. You know what would smoke both of them in a 0-60? A Tesla, but we all know there’s no comparison in terms of driving experience.
You don’t buy an M2 to win drag races. You buy it for the way drives, the way it handles, and the fun factor. I’ll take that any day over 0-60 times. |

I suggest doing not only reading posts on this forum but googling, as well. Many who purchased the G87 have built their car for going straight, whether on the roads or on the drag strip. |

Sure, M2 xDrive will probably beat an RS3. These are still very different cars so it seems weird to compare. It’s like comparing a Miata and a Civic Type R. Both are great cars but completely different in approach.

Keep in mind, people buying the G87 and G42 M240 for drag racing are building them. I am not referring to them stock. |

RS3 and M2 are direct competitors. Your analogy doesn’t make any sense. What about an M2 is so different than an RS3 that you would think RS3:M2::Miata:Type R?

I wasn’t looking for a 4 door, an AWD, or 5 person capacity car. The RS3 was never a consideration for me. YMMV |

Exactly. RWD coupe vs AWD sedan tarted up Jetta.

lots of people have cross shopped. i kind of sort of did, even went to some dealers to talk about it, but they acted like i was trying to special order a V10 R8 (and priced accordingly at the time) - so even if i could get over the auto, it just wasnt going to happen mentally for me. ive had many VAG products in my driveaway (including a few tarted up jettas) but for a last of its breed sports sedan i felt the execution and options on the M2 were ultimately what i preferred over the others.

This thread is silly. The M2 is a nice car, the RS3 is a nice car. If you care about quickness buy the RS. If you care about the ///M things buy the M2. Case closed

I can’t talk. I was cross-shopping Zupras and BRZs. What made that a short-lived exercise was the unavailability (BRZ) and unwillingness (Shityota) for any sort of test drives. Cash buyer can’t take your used Zupra for a spin, and you’re threatening ADM in mid-2024? F you Toyota!
Never even visited a VAG dealer though. Not my thing.
