The mould tool is made in China. As it has been on many plastic parts across many OE's for years. China is the cheapest and often fastest source of steel and consequently mould making. This bumper mould will weigh something around 25 metric tonnes of steel.

The mould will be relocated to close to build plant, Mexico (???) where it will churn out new bumpers. It's destination plant won't even be BMW, it will be a tier 2 that supplies fully built up assemblies for the assembly line. Fully painted, sensors installed, etc.

Cars as well as other things these days are truly global.

I'm not sure I like the new M trend to not have external grille bezels.

Where does the number plate go on this?
I know it's not aesthetically pleasing but the parking sensors protruding out like this and not typically ingress into the bumper skin is actually a good thing; now the front sensors might be able to fully pick up lower curbs or rough edges and maybe help save a splitter or two..

I bet the actual hood is going to have a similar design to the M3/M4.

What's the mod potential of the M240i? Can you get over 500RWHP out of the B58 with stage 2 or is it limited like the N55?

Looks like a mold to use for manufacturing other parts, perhaps the sizing for other plastic parts like grill, air scoops, etc. so final bumper can be very different

Excellent save 🙌🏻

I hope someone at BMW's design team puts down the pipe and instead start taking notes

Since the angle of the shot obscures the top portion of the bumper I'm going to reserve judgement.

Only a squirrel, raccoon, or opossum can comment on this design since its a perspective only they have experience with.

It's sad, bmw used to have such timeless designs but it seams over the years they have slowly been making bad design choices. There has constantly been at least one model in there line up that makes you question their designers. The last time bmw had a consistent good looking line of cars was 2001, e46, e39, and e38. Then we got into the bangle era, which I can't believe but I think those cars have started to look really good, when compared to the new designs. I'm looking at you x7lci and x8 with split headlights and the m3/m4 grill.

A bit boxy, at least it's not oversized like m3/4

M240 looks nice and this is along similar lines

Will definitely sell more then M4 if it gets same engine

Damn. This really is the real deal isn't it?

BMW have been hijacked. The management need to be investigated for corruption because it really feels like they're flushing the company down the drain to the benefit of their competitors.

I know it's too early to pass judgement etc and everyone is just jumping to conclusions over a blurred image, BUT, it sure does look like BMW are making very curious design decisions to key elements in the hope of appeasing the chinese/asian markets.

I bet it will look "good" the same way the new G80 looks "good", but it'll be far from the great timeless design that it could be. It's frustrating because the new 2 series looks like a very solid platform for an excellent looking M2, with just a few minor tweaks needed to turn it into an excellent design.

This bumper, if real, will look like sh*t on initial release, people will complain, then it will grow on people and everybody will get used to it, but it won't stand the test of time and will very quickly look old and dated.

Idk, when the G80 face became known it was also this terrifyingly repulsive, and yet now many say it has grown on them or even that it looks great.

If it is real the same people will claim it is the best and it is good bc BMW.

The grill on the new 2 series looks great.

If BMW really want to differentiate the M's to the non-M's, they do not need to do too much.

I would have added something like a recessed grill frame as seen on the CSL hommage for instance, to give it a more 3D appearance.

This, along with a more aggressive and tidy bumper design would be more than enough to differentiate it from the non-M's and would transform the design.

I didn't care for the homage design at all. I'm glad they didn't go that route.

If BMW wants to differentiate M Performance from M cars they can start by not giving a 2 Series M mirrors and a Power Dome.

Why do M2 headlights have to be exactly the same as M240?
