I don't see why folks are claiming that there is something wrong when Throttle House mentioned the lag at very low RPMs. At 30mph in 4th gear, the car was likely at 2000 rpm or less, where I'd expect there to not be much grunt. Road & Track did also call out in their review that there is a gap in torque between the M3/M4 power band though, so even though I don't think it is a really a problem there does seem to be a difference.

From Road & Track review:
There’s a distinct gap in torque under 4000 rpm compared to the M3’s powerband, but it’s not so detrimental as to call it a fault. In fact, it gives the M2’s drivetrain some character compared to its bigger sibling. The M3 is a freight train, the M2 makes you work harder to extract the most power, rather than just leave it in third and let the flat wave of torque do all the work.

Fortunately there is a solution to lag at low RPMs... downshift!

Speaking of weight, has any of these reviews put it in a scale to get real numbers? I know the answer is most likely not but throwing it out there.

The power delivery the across the band should be roughly the same and so far, no other reviews have expressed any issue like you’ve expressed so far with the 6 speed. There’s just no way 20HP less with the same torque should perform that much worse.

Also, did you guys or any other reviewer put these cars on a scale? I’m guessing not since everyone is still quoting BMW press numbers but was curious since many of their cars weigh a little less than they advertise.

And no 0-60 times? What gives???
They just not only expressed it to us, but they've also showed/demonstrated it in the video.

I'm trying to be nice after calling them sweaty earlier.

Lots of comments on YouTube are hilarious at how much they *hate* the new M2's look and I sit here thinking it looks better than the old M2 because it's much more muscular-looking.

Thanks for posting. It's a funny thing, BMW claims 406 at 2650 which is the same as the other cars. If indeed it isn't there until close to 4k, then they need to be called out for false advertising.

The TH guys reviews have been becoming more and more about comic relief and less and less about subjective car reviews and unfortunately the M2 review really shows. Compared to the other reviews it's just an F series owner making cheap jokes with little subjectivity although that is the claim. If the other reviews had similar themes then sure, but TH stands out for several reasons and reads like an F series forum warrior wrote the script.

It wasn't gas tank that I noticed watching the TH video, it was the 30 psi of pressure in the tires. I hope that was a weird "extra" shot, too, and not James and Thomas driving a car with low pressure in the tires and not noticing.

Edit - Personal opinion comment pointed at Thomas's desire for the M2 to still be as, uh, squirrel-esque as the F87 and F87c. Most of that was solvable on the F87C by upsizing the tires. 295 rears brought the M2C under control and made it a more usable daily. If I had kept my M2C, I would never have gone back to the stock rear sizes. Didn't like them a bit. Wanting your car to be a constant drift machine is the hallmark of a car that is not driven on a daily basis year-round for most folk. Maybe not Thomas and Chris Harris, but probably not most folk, most of the time. Or just me.

seems like throttle house and straight pipes are killing everyone else when it comes to views. 73k and 25k right now.

joe achilles / bmw blog / motoman are at like 10k combined.

not that it matters. just where public perception will most likely be on this car.

You have to take into account the number of followers each of those YouTubers have and it makes sense.

Garage List
I am looking for a car to feel edgy, slippery, dangerous and somewhat unpredictable. I did not pick up the GT4 last time because it had too much grip and drove too well (i know it doesnt make sense when you say it out loud). BMWBLOG just mentioned that this M2 feels more "balanced and stable... there is very, very little tailspin and that is by design... BMW doesn't want the tail to spin too much and... not willing to drift the whole time". He also mentions 3 to 4 times that BMW wants you to feel like a faster driver... If i wanted that, I would buy the M4.
I want a toss-able toy!!!! Maybe I need to get a M2C and make some substantial custom upgrades? The M2C didn't do it for me either I was hoping this would be THE CAR.

I am next on the dealer's list... I better make up my mind quickly!!!!

i felt this way with the F80. I bought a DCT and really enjoyed it but missed the manual. When I got the manual it felt slow so I added a BMS stage 1 piggyback tune and felt like it evened out. (i did not have a tune on the DCT).

no doubt, DCT is faster. if i went back in time i would've kept my 6MT for life, slowness and all

Re: the 6MT lag... they're just making a point that the car is better suited for ZF8. The ratios are closer and gets you into the power band quicker. It's pretty universally agreed that G8X is better with ZF8 for the same reasons.

6MT bois you'll be fine, you chose that transmission for a reason so just go enjoy it and quit freaking out about it lol

ha! funny - i basically just admitted to being a 6MT fanboi right before you said this. manual owners understand the limitations of the shifter.
