If that is the case, when is the best time to put down a deposit? My dealerships have stated that they do not take deposits until a car is announced. I am trying to prepare for a future announcement and just want to be ready/plan for it.

Thanks as always.

EDIT: I saw the first page...production starts August 2025. How early before production does BMW announce new variants? Also, how long has it taken guys who already have the G87 to get their cars after submitting their orders?

Sorry for all the questions.

So reached out to one of the 3 dealerships by me and they informed me that they have a 5 year wait for the M2….zoinks! They said they do not get many allocations and there are 6 people on the wait list. They also said that the $1000 deposit is not refundable.

Yeah, don’t think I will be buying a car from them. 5 years is crazy long. I am assuming the lack of allocations is due to the amount of cars they sell or the size of the dealership?

The non refundable deposit is BS, but I put my name on the list at what I assume is a fairly low volume dealer and got an allocation pretty damn quickly when someone else decided not to take theirs.

That is absurd. I waited a year and a half, but that was because I put my deposit down before they were building cars. Generally, I got it less than a year after they started building. And I still was one of the "long wait ones" out of the orders (CF roof I think).

You just need to cast further afield for dealers. It is slightly more hassle to buy from far away, but for the amount of money involved, it is probably worth it.

Deposit should be refundable. I made mine in Oct 2022, got on the wait list in March 2023 due to a confusion Got my allocation in April due to people dropping out, I was #3 and moved up to #1. Car was delivered last month, because of the delay due to the CF buckets.

People will drop out but don’t put money down unless it is refundable…

They are smoking something real good.
I have just searched available M2s within a 100 miles radius from my area and found so many (at dealership, in transit and in production). This car isn’t hard to find or order.

Smaller dealers will get fewer cars, but 5yrs is a stretch with only 6 people on the waiting list. FFS, the M2 will be out of production in 5yrs. I assume you were inquiring about an M2 and not the CS? Anyone can get an M2 at MSRP right now in weeks/months if you search and reach out to multiple dealers. If you're looking to get on a list for a CS, your best bet is to contact the larger dealerships that sell lots of M cars. You can Google for a list of the dealers with the most M sales in your region to find out which ones to contact.

It's never too early to try to get on a list, even if the car has not been officially announced yet by BMW. It's a sure thing, it's coming, don't be that guy that waits for 'official confirmation' and then misses the boat.

Yeah, it was simply for the regular M2. I did however inquire about the CS trim and he said that they don’t have a list until the car is announced which jives with what another dealership (the one I plan on working with) told me previously. That dealership also gives your deposit back if you back out as long as the car is not in production. I was shocked at the 5 year comment and at that point I thought I would not be purchasing from them or the guy just didn’t know what he was talking about.

Welp, I did it!!!

I went to the local dealer I have been talking to for awhile. They had a ZB M2 on the lot that I wanted to take my wife to go and see with me. We got to check it out and we both really like it. The interior is really nice. I did like the ZB as well but am torn between that and AW or TR.

Anyway, we made a deposit (refundable) and now I am officially on the waitlist. There are 4 people ahead of me and the wait is about a year which is not an issue for me. I am really excited about this and am looking forward to planning, picking options, asking you guys even more questions (looking at you Tag), and then getting the car!

BMWBLOG: The BMW M2 G87 LCI Is Planned For 2026 Launch

According to BMWBLOG the G87 will not get LCI until calendar year 2026. Looks like the only new model in 2025 will be the M2 CS.
Quote:
Our sources close to BMW have told us that an actual Life Cycle Impulse (LCI) is planned to arrive at some point in 2026. That would follow the M division’s modus operandi of giving its performance cars a nip and tuck three to four years into production. Much like was the case with the recently facelifted M4 Coupe/Convertible, don’t expect any major changes. We’re hearing the styling revisions will be modest, although there might be some additional yet-to-be-confirmed changes on the way.

So does the mean the LCI would be MY26, as in coming out late summer/fall of 2025? Or the actual year of release will be 2026? Sorry, just a little confused by the wording of the article.

I was hoping to do the same. If it is in fact MY26 does this mean it will be delivered late summer/fall of 2025?

Calendar year 2026, not model year. Uknown when it will go into production; could be spring or fall of 2026. TBD

Thanks a lot for the response. I’ll likely just go with a MY25 then, hoping the new colour options come to Canada!

Very disappointing, although explains why we’ve been seeing the CS test cars with the current look. I was seriously considering the CS thinking it would be the LCI, but now seems it will become dated only a year later by an xdrive that produces the same power and provides updated looks.

I was also disappointed since I'm waiting on the LCI.
