Quite stunning.
You sure it was a proper GTS?

BMW made 274 fire orange e92 m3's, the highest of any individual colour on the e92...

Or were you talking about the f80 CS?

This is getting good ....

If the E46 ///M3 CSL was available with a 6MT, I would have purchased one.

Everybody’s circumstances differ. Geographical area, state and type of roads, type of commute, family situation, disposable income all vary. For example at the moment, I need 4 doors on my daily driver, not just 4 seats. So an M3 it is, make the best of it (and don’t get me wrong, coded with all the CS settings I absolutely love it).

As soon as that requirement is removed in a year or so, Porsche here I come. Not a 1M that’s for sure. Out of all the M cars reviewed here, if I could have just one, it would be the CSL without a doubt.

I’ve driven the 1M, I get the idea behind it, but it’s not one that speaks to me for some reason. Not truly civilized enough for my commute, not hardcore enough for the track, it’s neither what I need nor what I desire.

Not everyone is an elitist moron. People genuinely like different things...
Your latter point is what all of these forum pundits should remind themselves of.

I found it interesting that the car he looked least comfortable in was the one he selected as his favorite (E92 GTS).

Here's how I would rank them based on which I'd like to own and drive hard:
1) E46 CSL
2) E30 Sport Evo
3) E92 GTS
4) F80 CS
5) E36 GT

How do you see it?

I think most people find the E46/E30 to be the best, depending on when they were born. E9X comes next as it's universally more loved than the E36. Only time will tell where the F80 stands. I haven't driven the Comp or CS, but I was not pleased with how isolated the F80 felt.

I'm near the age of Mr. Catchpole and likewise there is something about the E36 that is special to me. Especially in the colour combo and wheels shown. I really like certain 90s German cars, as I own a W124.

But reality just begs acknowledgement of the V8 masterpiece that is the E92. Such a good engine. That is easily the one I'd have. (I've also had too many classics in recent years to want an E30 right now...)

So oddly: E92>E36>E46>E30>F80

I think F80 was the best so far, only to be bested by the G80.

That settles it then. Lottery win followed by sourcing all the M3's is the only way to be satisfied!

I prefer the M Vision Next above all of them......

LOL JOKE!

It's so sad that the best times are behind us for enthusiasts. I am not speaking about faster cars, I am talking about the fascination and the courage it took, to drive these things fast.

We never got to get a taste of the S50B32, I still would go for the Sport Evo. This way I'd have a street and a track version of the best M3 ever.

I had an s50B32 powered e36. It's just an only worse S54 experience.

I mean, take an S54, reduce the redline, reduce the power output, reduce the mid range power, decrease the power potenial from mods, and make the valve adjustments more of a PITA... and the engine you have is the s50b32.

There's no reason to desire the s50b32 in a world where the s54 exists. The S54 is the same experience, only better in every way.

It took forever for the E46 and E9X to shake the negativity, and become regarded as one of the best ///M's of all time. The F8X will be no different. Only in recent years has attributes such as the E46's steering, etc. been touted as excellent. When it was in production, it was a numb steering bloated pig, and couldn't touch the regaled E36. It's interesting to see the tide of criticism eb and flow.

yup. just give it time. When the new M3s are all awd and dct. people will start paying top dollar for manual rwd ones. I do feel the M3 market is different than the M5 market in that regard.
