On the plus side, Vettel would have faster rubber to restart the race, allowing him to exploit the empty track ahead of him.
Simply states what I have been saying. Ferrari went for the aggressive strategy. Go with the softest tire, clear track, and try to build a gap. Like I said he couldn't pull the gap they thought he could and strategy ended up failing. Vettel's only chance was to pull a gap and to think he wasn't trying is foolish. Vettel got the gap up to 4 sec at one point, then his tires went off. With the 2.9 sec/lap delta between the supersofts and mediums, at that point the gap should have been more. Role reversal, the Mercedes would have pulled a much larger gap.

Nice, good or bad it needed a fair shot when the teams hopefully has basic understanding on how to adapt.

It needs at least one tweak, namely letting all flying laps count. It's stupid as it stands.

Sounds good but I've had to much Cognac to want or be able to think of how that impacts the timing not to endup with a 1h session

What's so hard about "don't let the 90 second clock negate a lap in progress". But on reflection it wouldn't work very well due to impacts further down the line, specifically the next car "on the bubble". They may not know they're at the bottom of the heap until too late.

Also if the bottom car do improve on his hot lap the next on the bubble will claim a hot lap and if he improves than it goes on and on. It will be a long session.
