Speaking the truth is one thing, but admitting to speeding through a yellow sector and possibly endangering another competitor and track workers is on a whole other level.

Had he remained silent, the stewards may have looked the other way. But completely admitting guilt in an unsafe action left the stewards no other choice.

I think it was the adrenaline talking, as it often does for the drivers. Let's hope he learns from the mistake.

This was bad judgement from Max. He should have lifted and we wouldn't even be having this discussion. Safety is the first priority at a race track. Period. End of story. He needs to adjust his attitude on this before someone really gets hurt. This was a deserved penalty.

Max really hasn’t changed. Just seems to be more self righteous now. His aggression has cost him the last few races and he’s too stupid to tone it down.

I see . But speaking the truth is no mistake .
Remain silent and lie about the facts , would be a mistake . Everything is/was visible anyway .
Keep in mind . Huge amounts of adrenaline are pumping in that last QF pole lap.

"In an unusual series of events following qualifying in Mexico, the FIA has stripped Verstappen of his pole position because he failed to slow down for the crashed Mercedes of Valtteri Bottas on his final lap in Q3. Although it seemed obvious at the time that his transgression was worth investigating, it appears the FIA initially didn’t see fit to look into it as he’d actually gone slower in the ‘mini sector’ where Bottas had gone off.

However, after the session Max quite freely made comments about how he hadn’t slowed down - even though he knew that there was a car in the wall - which prompted the stewards to take a closer look at the matter.

After some deliberation, they’ve come to the verdict that Verstappen ignored yellow flags - despite there being reports that some of the systems were down."

So it is his arrogance, for lack of a better word, that got him in trouble.

I agree, speaking the truth is no mistake. But knowing when not to speak is just as important. Remaining silent isn't lying though.

The fact that he said anything on the topic though is most likely, as you said, adrenaline. It's one hell of a drug

So now that we have a Ferrari front row lockout ahead of a long straight, will we see a Russian GP repeat? Will Lecry blast the team radio crying? Will Vettel give him any slack and let him keep an undeserved front spot?

Good chance Lewis now clinches his 6th title this weekend, if Bottas gets any penalties for repairs.

It’s behavior like this which solidifies his Crown as the biggest douchebag of the current F1 field. And there are quite a few contenders for this elusive title, so one REALLY has to try.

''despite there being reports that some of the systems were down'' too right there were.
There was no flashing yellow light on Max's steering wheel AND on the last lap of quali you are concentrating on improving your time. Go figure.

Stupid and arrogant from Max. We all remember the horrific crash from Jules Bianchi.
Max is still favourite to win the race.

I think race control should have red flagged the session immediately though. Bottas had a 17G impact crash and the Merc was in a very dangerous position.

The thing is he boasted about not lifting before the investigation was started. He didn't admit to it. It's arrogance and bullish behavior that got him in trouble rather than not slowing down.
I can't comment on his upbringing but his interaction with Ocon in Brazil last year is only one of the incidents that showed his true character.

Each post has a number ( right side on top )
So #93 = Post number 93
In this post you can see it's #113

Even Christians have a limit to suffering fools gladly, what Ocon pipsqueek did last year in Brazil was to cause a blatant clash a lap behind while Max was leading the race.

Negative..
That incident was done on purpose by Ocon . MAX was leader in the race and lost that race by Ocon's move .
BTW ...Ocon was one lap behind . Ocon said he tried to unlap himself for P 13 ...C'mon that was really BS !
Every F1 driver makes *always* room for the leader in the race !

Later that day Ocon's reaction was very clear....One face expression *In the second video* can show us more than 1000 words ...
Ocon is a piece of 5H1T !
