Quickly and repeatedly. Picture a 1200hp m3 awd on an auto cross track that's a quarter mile... All for max range in an EV |

Well. I was called boomer. But what makes you think I have to explain myself here ? If you red the whole thing this was in context with EVs. Not Bmw in general. Now. I have 3 BMW’s. I like them a lot. I will also gladly point every single f**k up they commit.

All EVs will be fast but the battle will be won by the ones with the best chassis, suspension and handling system design and tuning.

Fair enough, a performance EV that bests all previous BMW ‘ring speeds is an outlier. What does it mean for the mainstream public road driver? Very little, I’d have thought. Who buys their daily drive on the basis of the ‘ring performance? I imagine it’s very few. But this relevance / irrelevance applies equally to ICE and EV cars, surely? If you’re after a public road performance experience then it’s nice to see your choice doing well on the ‘ring but you buy it on the basis of a lot more and wider criteria than that. All BMW are doing by tracking their EV is supplementing their buying proposition with a bit of exotic racing sparkle. Like Mercedes do with their F1 cars.
I don’t read into it that they’re saying “You should buy an EV, not a petrol BMW because, look, an EV is our fastest car around the ‘ring”.

That’s a very true fact. MB inventory in general is sky high. The EQS isn’t selling. I saw about 15 lined up today when I test drive another x1.

Rivian CEO said their next move is ECU consolidation, starting with R1 in 2024. It is a cost cutting measure, along with other things. It will save thousands per vehicle. He calls it zonal control.

99 of the 163 vehicles in inventory at my local MB store is EQ models. They can't sell them even with gov subsidies and MB incentives.

XMs are not exactly selling like hotcakes either. Tesla’s are selling cause they’re still ahead of competition in terms of drivetrain in that segment even after so many years and what’s more build quality is much improved as well.

I think it unlikely that people buy cars on the basis of how much inventory a dealer has. i.e. If it’s substantial, they don’t buy it, but if it’s minimal they do. Surely, they have a set of requirements, test drive it, look at the purchase and running costs or lease cost, then make a decision? MB have made a wrong strategic decision to move away from the volume market and focus on luxury models and their EV range is simply too expensive for what you get. I don’t see the resulting unsold inventory as proving EVs are generically bad any more than an inventory of unsold ICE cars would prove that ICE is bad. Seems to me that Tesla know how to make cars that people want to buy and MB at present, don’t. And that BMW have done well with the iX which similarly seems to be an EV that people want to buy.
