Thanks for explaining the allocation system!
If you are willing to make the drive out tot he East Bay, Fremont BMW seem to get allocations every month and multiple of them. Keep in mind if you are trying to get bucket seats, you may not see the car till the earliest May if you place your order now. They are on massive backorder. Even though i bought an M4, i'm thinking about switching into an M2 and have decided to keep my order with the dealership but because i want the bucket seats they said theres a chance i dont see the car close to the end of the year.

I'm not making a purchase for another 1-2 years. I'm in no rush. My daily is still in working order so I'm going to let the market "normalize" a bit more. (If that's even a thing anymore...)

I mean honestly you can just put the order in now especially if you are getting the bucket seats. You'll not see the car till next year anyways because of those delays. But honestly i'm not sure how much "softer" the market will get. Like steep discounts can already be had for the G80/2/3 and i think there are some people that have managed pretty decent discounts under MSRP even for the M2. I myself have a 500$ under MSRP deal with my dealership and that was negotiated back in November. I'm thinking about trying to negotiate further when the car gets here in about a year based on what the market looks like.

My 2c, never buy a car that needs convincing in your head, you either want it or not. No words will change the car or make it better or worse. The car is out there, test drive one…

should you change the title of the thread to "new car shopper after 17 years" or should we just look for the new thread with additional follow up questions in your next stage of pre-purchase consideration?

Honestly i super resonate with this. My G82 was the first car i've ever bought where i made a post where i was seeing if other people and even myself could convince me it would be something i would enjoy. I ended up buying one because i felt the standard seats were more comfy than the standard M2 seats, and the BMW individual color really sold me on it. However after driving it for about a month, i realize i really should just get the M2. Now i'm in a lucky position where financially i can enjoy the M4 until my M2 gets built, and i did need a car anyways so i'm in no rush to get rid of it. However i'm glad the M2 isnt built yet as i will have the choice to switch into it.

But yeah, i do agree. Dont buy a car where you feel you need to be convinced that it's a good choice. Unless of course the car that you REALLY want is just financially impossible at the time. Then at least try to get something that is as close as you can. But if the choice is between convincing yourself to get something vs just getting the one you want. Just get the one you want.

You make a DAMN good point! I made this thread so owners can help convince me and I've got to say, you guys are doing a great job at it (aside from the few dickheads who can't help themselves).

I'm scared to walk into a dealership. Expensive things happen when you stroll into one... haha

Thanks man, your point is well taken. I think I'm pretty convinced. A lot of it comes from hearing everyone's stories and realizing I'm comparing my old cars, which were designed in a different era, and simply cannot be compared to a modern car. Because it's not fair to a car like the G87 M2 when regulations and safety measures simply does not allow for cars to be as lightweight as I'd like it to be. (Miata is an exception, but I don't need another unrefined 2-seater)

Everyone please keep sharing your stories.

And the dickheads, don't forget to use your turn signals and move along.

I once took my 2 year old (at the time) to try to test drive a nsx, they dealers get pisses off, not cause of the kids cause it was an nsx that they knew I was not serious to buy.. my point being..just go in there and shouldn’t be scared, it’s not a csl..and if they treat you like shit, tell them that they lost a customer and post about how they treat you..I assume they would be more helpful then how you feel it will go..

The manufacturers do a very good job dialing in the cars so the added weight is not as noticeable. My M2 is probably ~600 lbs heavier than my '11 Carbon Edition Z06. My Z06 is a hardtop, has carbon fiber fenders, carbon ceramic brakes, etc. Tbh, under normal and even spirited driving, there isn't much difference in feel (from a weight perspective) between the two, at least to me. The Z06 has ~600 whp compared to the M2's ~470, both are fun to drive. I'm sure on a track the difference in weight would be apparent, but for 99.9% of us, you're not going to think "man the M2 is a heavy car".

Yeah? What about SF? It's sad that you got nothing else going on in your life so you come here to run your little mouth.
