it uses gps, i.e. satellites, primarily with the wi-fi and cel towers kicking in to supplement the data it reads from those satellites (or to triangulate your position where no satellite signal is received).

They missed the boat for me, for one reason only... 16Gb max?? That thing needs 80gb minimum. My ipod is pretty full, and I don't want to have to figure out what I will not have with me for music and video, because it's less than a quarter the disc space of my 4 year old ipod.

Am I missing something or is there just GPS, Parental Controls, 3G, and a different color backplate?

The applications aren't a big deal for me since my iPhone is unlocked. I honestly don't see anything that would cause me to want to upgrade. Though, I think it's a good they lowered the price. That was smart on their part.

Find an 80gb flash drive and they will, if its not super expensive. I don't expect to see solid state drives in the iPhone too soon, and I wouldn't want a disk for storage on the phone.

yeah what ^ he said. Cel towers and wifi is used as backup if you were to lose the sight of the satellite.

Alright, i didn't mean it literally, but I'd still think that at that price point it's going to be even more prolific. Too bad it doesn't have a messaging program still.

I figured you would. And yes the remainder of the people that didn't get it because of price will be interested now. People who didn't get it because it had no gps/3g are interested now. And people who already have it are interested in it even more. As for the messaging program, aol demonstrated AIM on it back in...was it feb or march? Had a little meeting about the sdk. I'm sure theres pleanty of things in the works. Thousands upon thousands of things are awaiting it.
