ABC can do a follow up report about owners that have replaced their fuel pumps and most are still having issues - a possible lemon/ buyback scenario from a national coverage stand point. Pressures on for BMW, I'm sure bmw engineers are on it.

what a short sighted remark! i live in johannesburg, south africa and i have had this problem with the engine virtually shutting down, together with loss of power assist to the steering and brakes, intermittently for the past two years. Dealers seemed to have no idea what the problem was until last week when the problem recurred and they replaced the HPFP. I wrote to BMW repeatedly over the past 18 months but my emails were basically ignored. Anyway, johannesburg has some rather unsavoury areas and the gps often takes me through these areas. I have always been extremely nervous driving this car at night for fear of some sort of engine malfunction in the wrong part of town - i'd be a sitting duck for hijackers/robbers etc, especially if i had to pull over or switch the car off at a traffic light! i've never enjoyed my 135 because i never truly had peace of mind while driving the car after the engine problems surfaced. quite sad and deeply disappointing really.

Did they say that the full story is going to air tonight?
I have had my 2008 E92 335i FP replaced 6 times! I have also been caught in limp mode numerous times! That is just the short list of my problems. On the other hand, I have had several forum buddies that have had absolutely zero problems. Anyway, I have an E92 M3 on order right now that BMW is selling me at cost because of all the issues that I have had. So, I guess you can say it all worked out for me in the end.

Not true. N55 came out because it gets better economy and fewer emissions and is also probably less expensive to produce. The basic motor is the same.

Oh I have screaming sqeaky brakes and rattle-snake or cans being dragged behind the car. I went in for service they said they can't hear the brakes WTF? That shiat is loud as hell. Literally screeching as I go down the floors of my underground garage. I will video tape it and show them the video so they can stop denying it. And the wastegate rattle? I gave up on that. They replaced them, but it soon came back. Car sounds worse than a Kia costing 1/3 the price. Awesome car, but some really annoying ridiculous issues a car at this price point should never have. Good ABC is smacking them.... now lets publicize the wastegate rattles and brakes please. I am sick of BMW refusing to do anything claiming there is no problem or its "normal".

N55 = N54 only with a single twin scroll Turbo and modified software. Uses same crappy pumps and even a few people with N55 are also having waste-gates rattle just like they do on N54s. I got warranty on fuel pump extended to 100K miles by BMW proactively. And Yes, me like most other folks have had a failure. I'd much rather prefer they fix the issue once and for all rather than a guarantee via warranty to fix failures for free.

can anyone please direct me to info on the problems people have had with the X5?
The lease just ended last friday on my 08 e92 335xi, so this saga is behind me after 2 HPFP replacements, all 6 fuel injectors, spark plugs, and numerous software upgrades. I had been thinking about an x6, but I wanted to avoid bmw turbo engines until this is sorted out, so i went elsewhere. However, my mother has a 2008 x5 v6. I didn't realize there were issues with that engine and I'd like to be able to get her some info...thanks! -nomad |

The only thing that we don't know about is if BMW decided to put an end to this HPFP fiasco by offering the 120k warranty and 10 years. What this told me is that they were done with designing new fuel pumps and they were just going to go with whatever they have and keep replacing them for as long as we owned our cars. That was probably their "fix."
At least this recall will hopefully force them back to the drawing board and actually design a fuel pump that works in a proper way. But then again it might not. Don't kid yourselves guys, they made a lot of pumps that are on the shelves and they need to go into somebody's car, they're not just getting thrown out, and they are all still ticking time bombs. They have their priorities straight as any big corporation. Here's their agenda. 1. Profit 2. Profit 3. Profit . . . . 1,000,000. Everything else......... 1,000,001. Recall on Hpfp .. |

I saw the snippet and amazed at the BMW executive claiming limp mode is safe. How about we rig a remote setup to his BMW that allows me to trigger limp mode on his car at my will. Or his child's or wife's BMW.
Hey, limp mode is safe right? I am sure he won't object to that. Having random limp mode is exactly that, it's may fail at the least convenient time. Love to see him walk the walk.

When the high pressure pump fails completely it is driveable under less power. It is essentially a pretty good driving mode. It reduces the power. limp mode is a "pretty good" driving mode?? really? |

This has been blown WAY out of proportion by greedy lawyers and the media. I'd be willing to wager that there is not even a single physical injury caused by this? BMW has been honoring the warranty and has been paying for the repairs since this whole time, and have gone beyond by extending the warranty. That is already more than they are offering in other countries. What a bunch of litigious bitches we are.
