So it seems that at BMW, since a couple of years, car designers feel the pressure to present untraditional ('groundbreaking') car designs if they want their design to be chosen. Otherwise a rival designer wins the project.

Compare on the other hand with - IMHO great - BMW design renders by French automotive artist Monholo Oumar: see https://www.behance.net/Monholo and https://www.instagram.com/monholo_o/

'2002 Hommage' variation (lamps line needs to be vertically inverted):

Unconventional, groundbreaking, I get that. BMWs most recent car designs however are utter trash. Each section of their new cars designs look like they are done by different teams, without collaboration and last minute. The lines clash, the styling is all over the place. The front and rear look like two different cars. And then they exaggerate everything, like the giant and hideous grilles. It's almost like they come up with a design, put it in front of a funhouse mirror and then draw that up.

I don't get it, I will not get use to it, I don't like it and I never will. This myth of 'people will get use to it' is just that. No they won't. You have two groups of people, those that aren't that offended by the shitty design and focus on other aspects of the car and then everyone else. They need to cut this nonsense already, but they won't, because they think everything is great due to sales. We are just in a supply, demand situation due to the screwed up economy so sales are good. Until the honeymoon ends we won't see the real picture of how much these clowns have damaged the brand and reputation of the company for years to come. This is far worse than anything during the Bangle era who was really trying to move the company forward. This stuff though? I don't even know what the hell to call it other than garbage and all those responsible for the design and approval of this horseshit to production should be canned. They should all be paraded out in the very monstrosities they helped create.

From the thread "Domagoj Dukec: "Good Design isn't about Pretty or Ugly"".

The quoted part: what Dukec said in the 2021 interview:

In my eyes, the 4 Series Coupé really isn't as radical as it is made out to be by the the media. It's a very elegant car with very good proportions. The only thing that could be perceived as unconventional is the shape of our kidney grille.
It makes me wonder, in a way, how people are so superficial that they judge on one detail. It's like judging a human being on one thing – big nose, long legs, big head. You wouldn't say to a chef, 'Okay, this three-course menu is great, but what is your favourite ingredient?' Salt is just salt; a tomato is just a tomato. It's really the composition of all the ingredients that is important.
I always admired Karl Lagerfeld for what he did at Chanel, but also for his attitude. He didn't care what people thought. Because the truth is, if you want to create something that is really daring or bold, people will follow if you're confident enough to know what the brand deserves."
Imagine a chef deciding to make excessive/disproportionate use of salt "to make a statement", explaining "there are no rules - I don't care what people think - I'm confident enough to know what this restaurant deserves".

Subsequently watch how people in the restaurant react.

Apparently those who dislike this new design direction, or lack of any coherent language is 'new' and us older BMW enthusiasts just don't understand and should move on and leave BMW to the young crowd....

PS.I agree with you 120%

That is exactly what he is doing. Fashion for the Insta look-at-me crowd. Agree 100% with the Friday Rant.

Why is that? Just because these parts looking aggressive?

Look at the performance parts from AC Schnitzer for the M3...not so subtle are they? Look at the aeros on the E92 M3 GTS and the F82 M4 GTS.

These days the M performance aero parts are more functional than ever so function over form for greater performance. In the E92 days or prior, M didn't have any real functional aero parts for the general public except for special edition cars with the GTS nomenclature

What makes a stacked quad exhaust more functional?

AC Schnitzer indeed makes some gaudy looking parts.

Can someone help me understand why G87 discussions were moved to G42 forums?

Looks like it's in the process of having its own section...that being said it should be near the previous M2 generations.

At least BMW didn't put the horrid front end/grille of the M3/M4 on this thing. I could live with this weird exhaust look, but sounds like it will be an option or diff model anyway. Throw in the blonde gas pumper and who cares...

Those diagonal tailpipes remind me of those Lexus F models. Not a fan of that look.
