"A just machine to make big decisions Programmed by fellows with compassion and vision We'll be clean when their work is done We'll be eternally free yes and eternally young What a beautiful world this will be What a glorious time to be free" Donald Fagen - "I.G.Y." Awesome. About time someone around here appreciates a good genre!
![]() If you're talking about going far back to the origins, I guess you'd have to be talking about the Chicago scene. |

On the softer side of the 'house' spectrum I have also a soft spot for warm tunes emanating from Italy in the early 90s. This style was dubbed "mellow house music" back then because of its lush smoothness. Hard to believe that three decades have lapsed ever since. Tempus fugit.... Don Carlos - "Alone (Paradise)" (the Italian DJ Carlo Troja, not to be confused with the "Don Carlos" reggae musician): Korda - "Move Your Body (to The Sound) (Club Mix)": Love Quartet - "Kiss Me (Don't Be Afraid)":

This is veering off a bit because I was thinking about some of my favorites artists in the 90s and I'd have to say BT was one of them at the top of the list. This is when nu skool breaks came out and this was one of my favorite tracks. He was gifted and introduced new styles and a true pioneer.
I had a Japanese release of his album "Movement in Still Life" which I listened to over and over. What a killer album it was (and still is). |

As most over here prefer more mainstream music, that's it for underground 'house music' for a couple of days for me now. ![]()

Versatility: from deephouse to jazz.
The young Bill Evans oozing with immeasurable musical talent in June 1961, accompanied by Scott LaFaro on bass and Paul Motian on drums. Jazz excellence. Little did they know back then that a couple of days later LaFaro would tragically die in a car accident, at the age of 25 (1961). A brilliant career cut short (also Miles Davis had expressed interest in hiring LaFaro). Evans, and more generally the jazz community, was devastated by the loss. Many Evans trios followed, but none was as magical as the Evans-LaFaro-Motian trio. Evans died in 1980 at the age of 51 (unfortunately worn out by decades of substance abuse). Motian died in 2011 at the respectable age of 80. Bill Evans - "Waltz For Debby (Live at the Village Vanguard)": Bill Evans - "Some Other Time (Live at the Village Vanguard)":

If you fancy that kind of downtempo rabbit hole, then you could check out as well the whole back-catalogue of DJ Jay Denes (aka "Blue Six" aka "Naked Music"). Suave swag sounds for dusk till dawn.
Blue Six - "Bittersweet" (2010) (same track - alternative source: here) Naked Music - "Hurry (Blue Six Dub)" (2008) (same track - alternative source: here) Blue Six - "Beautiful Tomorrow" (2002) (same track - alternative source: here)
